I was wondering if we could compile a comprehensive thread of real Heath Ledger signatures. I know he's real tough because his signature had variations towards the end of his life. Please post any in person or confirmed authentic examples you've got, and share any traits we should be looking for when authenticating.

I'm afraid I have nothing to offer but my request. I can copy and paste stuff from AW or RR, but that'd be cheating!

Who are these people and why did they state that when there are no other real examples that look like that? Send it to PSA and I guarantee they'll say it's fake for all those same reasons.

here is an AML link on Academy of Manuscript and Autograph and sampling of the handiwork;

I agree!!!! I hold a major celebrity filled auction/party in Beverly Hills every year (for charity and to promote my corp.). I have had every star from Kate Hepburn and Burt Lancaster to Liz Taylor, Kirk Douglas, Jeremy Irons, Heath Ledger read for my million selling poetry and literature audio books. Over 150 actors are/were close friends. I thought I would have a bunch of Heath Ledger cards and photo slabbed at PSA instead of the usual matting. Heath donated a pile every year from 2003-2007. Psa gave 8 reasons or paragraphs as to why they were fake. If Heath was here, he would have smashed my house to bits (after I did as we both have / had horrible tempers). If you are going to collect, become your own expert! I spent 80 grand on a library, lectures, trips to museums and Greece and Rome BEFORE collecting ancient coins and antiquities. I also studied with THE world's top expert! Do not rely on anyone but yourself! Most Heath's out there are fake and easily spotted.

LOL!

There is no way that is authentic. Sorry. I hope you did not pay for their opinion. I like how they told you the 'slant' was good. If you compare your piece to known good Heath's you can see that your piece has a new a never seen 'slant'. Heath's 'slant' is consistent across all known good examples. Yet yours is totally different.

You asked the seller if it was authentic? That is too funny. Asking the seller if something is authentic is a waste of time. There is only one answer you will ever receive...

Please scan and post the documentation you received from this never before heard of authenticator.

Seemed legit, i thought $40 would be worth a laugh to see what they thought. PSA asking $100 for the same "opinion" isn't worth a laugh. Not like I'm going to try and resell it or anything. I feel the same way about it as you guys. Though I feel it does resemble the notecard that PSA authenticated a bit in my opinion.  Just goes to show how squirrelly Autograph Authentication can be. I'm over it.

I just want to point out that questions were raised to me via email about these two I posted. I was under the impression that the source was impeccible. Does anyone here see a problem with them? I see the H is a little wide and the rest of the first name is a little scrunched, but he also seemed to be all over the place. I want to wait until I can find something that is universally accepted as legit. What's your opinion?

It's a shame that Mike Aring's posts were deleted, because we lost a whole bunch of nice exemplars for comparison.

JXE, I think that any member of this site should only post IP examples that they witnessed themselves. Anytime they come from another source, no matter how credible, you can never be 100% sure they are authentic and its dangerous to start using them as exemplars no matter how good they look.

Are you referring to me saying I wish Mike Aring's examples were still up? Or me posting those two? If you were referring to Mike's examples, he did get those himself. If you were referring to the two I posted, I posted them to get people's opinions because I'm trying to buy one and they were offered to me. I'd appreciate any opinions on them.

Also, I see what you're saying for when we want the best bank of examples as possible; but that only works for people from this era, as some actors at this point couldn't have been obtained by nearly anyone still around to write about it online.

I do mean the 'modern' era.

I have been looking at Heath Ledger autographs for awhile and finally bought an 3x5 index card from Press Pass Collectibles certified by PSA/DNA that I'm having matted and framed with a Joker pic. During my search for an authentic Heath Ledger signature I have seen a ton of the "chicago post office" signatures that are in my opinion 100% not authentic. If you go to ebay and search completed listings you will see allot of these where the signatures are all the same. Furthermore, there appears to be 2 big sources of these autographs. One is an ebay member named thetruebatman1 and a guy out of philli. They both have an endless supply of these alleged Ledger autographs on Joker photos. The funny thing is not all of there autographs are on the two available pics (close up joker face/joker in jail cell). Problem is you can only go back a short distance on ebay's completed list, but you will see them. My advise is to stay far away as none of these would pass any 3rd party verification in my opinion.

-One other thing you can do is google "heath ledger chicago post office autograph" and then go to just "images" and you will see what I'm talking about.

True, but then I find something like this that is PSA/DNA certified ......PSA/DNA #65098449...

That's the one I think trimblej bought, based on his timing. I had a best offer in on that too, but I couldn't agree with $550 for a partial signature on a card. However, it's still very nice, and it's going to look great matted with a Joker image. That's why they got what they got for it.
