They had a mess of fake McCartneys at one time, too.

Hi Steve,

As you allude to, this is a reminder that the only way to truly know if someone really signed something is to see it being signed yourself. It's possible that the item that you bought is authentic, but I think that most of us agonize over signature purchases to no end. If you're not sure of something then I say go with your gut.

I believe that when people don't like signing they are more inclined to change their signature to confuse people, instead of providing something nice and precise. I've heard that Mel Gibson does this.

That's a good study. One of the most obvious concerns to me was how round the C is in Steve's example. The study shows how unusual that is.

Not to add to the confusion, (hope it helps) but here is one I got in the 90's in NYC at Tavern On The Green.  He wasnt easy, I had to practically beg.  It bugs me when he says he doesnt get paid to sign.  He surely can if he wanted to.  Fans would line up at a show and I'm sure for big money.

Thanks for this - great signature.

I have now sent mine back to the dealer (hopefully I get my refund!!).  You do wonder how anyone can really know if a signature is genuine (apart from the obvious pre-print forgeries)
