Michael Jackson Signing Styles in Julien's Tompkins and Bush Sale

On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.

Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.

Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

Veronica, Julien's are breaking their own terms and conditions if they don't respond to your concerns.

It's completely beside the point what the whole case is and if they stand by Bush or not or blah blah blah. It is your RIGHT to get independent authentication of that autograph, according to their contract with you.

Here's a list of US organisations for consumer protection, maybe somebody can help. The details of the case against Bush and the wider context are irrelevant: Julien's are not adhering to their own terms and conditions, that's cause for complaint.

I can't afford to have 2 experts as they say you have too. And they have to agree with me regarding what experts I may have. So I don't know what to do really.

 It´s a lot about individuals that have no expertise in Michael jackson memorabilia, signature or handwriting.

Well, Veronica, it's true that many of the fans who have flagged up the autographs have no formal credentials as authenticators. We do have the experience of seeing many, many Michael Jackson autographs, handwritten notes and memorabilia over the years. Some of us have received autographs from him in person.

In addition, and most importantly for any legal discussion, we have the voices of at least five reputable people from the autograph authentication community who have the same concerns.

We have collected and posted many, many images of MJ's real signature and detailed comparisons with the Bush examples and the differences are glaringly obvious to the naked eye.

And if that's not enough we have the image of an item with the same Bush style signature which was produced after Michael Jackson passed away.

Those are the facts. Everything else is smoke and mirrors.
