PSA Quick Opinion

Weird question. Just wondering if anyone has gotten a "Likely Genuine" response on PSA quick opinion, but was NOT passed by PSA when submitted for a regular authentication?? I have come across a pretty rare signature that I submitted to PSA. It came back "Likely Genuine." I would be pretty upset if I bought it, submitted it, and found out they would not certify it. Has anyone gone through this??

It could happen, but the items I used quick Opinion on and submitted. It came bad good.

The last time I used the service.... the item was bought via a best offer... my response was "inconclusive"... then weeks later I see the ID that won it left feedback.... and it was for a PSA authenticator! Last time I ever used the service prior to actually winning the item for myself. Shows you the ethics of the people over there.

When you have an authenticator there that's an expert, and collects, Star Wars and John Belushi.... and you request an opinion on a John Belushi item.... don't expect to get it for less than what PSA feels it's worth. I learned my lesson.. thankfully it wasn't anything rare.

This happened to me as well!! I asked for a quick opinion on an Eli Wallach that has been up for sale for 2 years and it came back likely genuine and purchased immediately after.

Yeah, this one is for a Len Bias autograph. Came back likely genuine, just can't decide whether to pull the trigger. I appreciate everyone's input.

I agree with Ryan, i have heard of this happening. If their is one thing that is for sure, PSA quick opinion tends to side with caution. Often they will give the thumbs down if a signature is abnormal, even if its authentic. Personally i would rather get that report over a likely authentic opinion which later turns out to be bad. But i can understand feelings their either way.

But i have heard of numerous cases where such an item fails PSA quick opinion and is sent in, and it gets passed. I imagine its simply due to the fact that an accurate assessment couldnt be made over the net, so they needed the item in person to tell for sure. And as we all know, on certain autographs that are tough or iffy, seeing them in person can be the deal breaker.

I have also heard a few stories where a likely genuine was given and then failed when sent in. And again i imagine this is for the same reason, and that it appeared good online but once in hand, the ink or pressure just didnt jive. I like QO but its a gamble any time an over the net opinion is given.

But these instances are pretty rare from what i typically hear. Most of the time the main criticism of QO, is that they keep getting not authentic opinions. And their really is no cure for that, lol, until you find a good one.

But i think you should be good, every time i have done the QO and then sent in, everything came back A okay.

YES - this happened to me over an Obama signed Magazine. I was not happy and PSA gave NO explanation as to WHY they thought it was "Likely Genuine" - but then when I sent it in - Not Genuine. NO explanation as to WHY it did not pass... total crap! I paid enough for them to at least tell me what was wrong with the signature.

Mark did they charge you the $100 or more they probably charge for Obama to tell you it was no good, after they said likely genuine, or did they refund your money?

Correct - they charged me $7 for the quick opinion - $100 for sending it in, plus the shipping.

$107 - with NO explanation as to WHY it did not pass.

I even spoke to the owner Joe - but NO explanation what so ever as to the problem with the autograph not being good. That is not what I call good customer service. He said that he had know way of knowing WHY it was bad that they look at so many per day.

I will not be using PSA for anything in the future.

Yeah, this is what I'm worried about. I ended up getting the Bias autograph that was deemed "Likely Authentic" by QO. Don't know yet if i'll send it in. Just saw that PSA charges $100 for him and JSA only $50. Who knows.
