Hey guys, I'm just starting a Heisman collection and was wondering if anyone had any winners that they had trouble finding or didn't sign, etc... Any help would be appreciated!

I've had no trouble finding people, Andrew. But just thought I'd tell you that Herschel Walker is GREAT through the mail. Real nice guy, great signer, and a beautiful autograph. If you need his address, just let me know. I just had a recent success, and it looks real when I compared it with 2 others I have of him that I paid for getting in person at a show.
Thanks Jeffrey, his is actually one of the few that I do have so far. I put out a letter for him the other day. This may sound silly, but I found the facility that O.J. is in, do you think it would even be worth the time or postage to send him something c/o that facility?
Maybe. I'm a probation officer here in GA, and I know that famous people in prison and jails are not allowed to sign autographs through the mail in our state. I'm pretty sure that would be the case everywhere else, but give it a shot. Might surprise yourself. If not, all is not lost. There are plenty of O.J. autographs out there. And they go for pretty cheap because of all the negativity associated with him. Just make sure you purchase a JSA or PSA/DNA certified autograph.
OK, cool, thanks alot. I'll give it a go, can't hurt anything...I wonder if he is a generous signer? I wouldn't think so...by the way, I'm a recent high school grad here in Indiana, so I'm relatively knew to the whole autograph process.
I have been collecting autographs in person and through the mail since I was 15 years old! It is such a great hobby. Every autograph has a story to tell. It's like owning a snap shot of time from a person's life. You'll really enjoy it. Just don't get frustrated when someone won't sign, sends you a bogus autograph they had their agent sign, etc. And also, BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU BUY SOMETHING!!!! There are a lot of people out there who sell fake autograph stuff, but there are a lot of people who sell good stuff, too. When you want to buy something, e-mail Steve Cyrkin on here and he can tell you if the person you want to buy from is legit or not.

Don't waste your time trying to contact O.J. I wrote to the warden at the prison where O.J. is at and I never heard back from him.     Joe

how does one tell if the autograph is a fake one sent by their agent or not?
Andrew the best way to know is to compare with legitimate autographs. Like Jeff stated make sure it is a JSA or PSA/DNA authenicated item. If you just go to eBay and do a search for the people you are looking for you can check out the images and do some comparisons for yourself. If you look at a number of exemplers from their that have been authorized by either JSA or PSA/DNA then you will be able to get a good idea of what is legit. One not of caution is that some of the sellers will have an auction house letter confirming the item or it may confirm a large bulk purchase. I would stay away from them because just because they have the letter that doesn't mean the item they are selling was in that lot. Look for only items that have the JSA or PSA/DNA numbered stickers with matching cards. You can go to JSA or PSA/DNA's website and enter the number to see if they match. Also if you check eBay you may get some great deals because some of the people who are selling on their may not know what they have. A good example I purchased a JSA autnenicated Emmitt Smith signed 8x10 for $50 because the dealer had Emmitt spelled Emmit. Good luck
Hershel Walker, George Rogers, Danny Wuerrfel, and Mike Rozier all signed pretty fast and all had nice signatures
You may already have Billy Sims, since this post is several months old, but he is one of the best signers ever.

Sims is great. I ran into him at a restaurant in Auburn, Ala., of all places and he was really cool. I was the only one in the place who realized who he was and was very low-key about getting his signature. I got to sit at the table and talk with him for a bit. One of the best in-person autograph experiences I've had.

Here's a pic of the autograph:

Also, do not waste your time on Steve Spurrier. He does not sign TTM. I've attempted 2 requests thru his USC address several years ago, and no response. Apparently, they throw away any fan mail or autograph requests. I wish I got a RTS instead.
