faded autographs

As a general rule, would you agree that a very faded autograph by someone who is deceased in the early 80's and the signature clearly shows actually skipped marks in the ink could be genuine?  I am so skeptical anymore, just want something to go on when trying to get an authentic autograph of someone long deceased.

I would have said yes to this many years ago but not anymore sadly. Due to technology and very good forgers who manage to age items well it makes it tougher to say for sure. If you have an item in mind please do post if you can and if we can see it we can give opinions.

No, Fading can be achieved rather easy. Sharpies are water based and if you just leave it in the window for a couple days it will start to fade the ink. A week and it might be next to gone. And for that matter people have been faking autographs for a hundred years, old forgeries are out there.

Thanks so much, I should have mentioned that this is signed with an ink pen, but I never thought of it being an old forgery.  I appreciate your input. Thanks again.
