I normally trust PSA/DNA on Ruth and maybe they are correct but I would not buy this one if I was looking for a Ruth autograph. It looks so far off from any legitimate examples I have ever seen that I would not want it in my collection. Certainly, not a classic Ruth autograph. I can't believe they have an exemplar in their files that match this one so I have no idea how they could authenticate it. As previously stated, most of the letters are way off in my opinion.
Randy, I totally agree, in fact, I just wrote an email about his, and said the exact same thing. Not one letter looks correct to me.
it can be justified any way that anyone wants to spin it. when you see hundreds of Ruth autographs, all fairly consistent with each other, and this atrocity, I can certainly understand why certain people would doubt it. and that doubt will always be there.
the other signatures are authentic? could be, but I have never heard of any of them.
Certainly, it makes sense that the Ruth autograph could be authentic based on his attendance at the event but how much influence did that have on the authentication. Autographs should stand on their own merit based on known authentic exemplars.
At best, it is not a nice example of Ruth. I have no idea what the price is but you can sometimes find a nice authenticated cut for about $2K and I can't imagine that this one is a lot less than that.
I would hold out for a nicer example if you are looking to keep the autograph in your collection but that is obviously just an opinion.
If you trust the authenticator and like the item, go for it and enjoy it. The bottom line is with that slab the item will likely be sellable in the future whether it it truly authentic or not.
Any auction house will run it in that slab which gives any buyer a sense of security.
I just did some research. yes, he was there as he got an award. Strong was a NY Giants player, and his auto does check out. I wish I could envision the situation that would force Ruth to have signed like this. too much booze??
Saw this on eBay for a decent price and thought it looked slightly odd as well. But it does have speed and some positive characteristics I have learned to look for. No Babe expert here, but I do think it's likely authentic and would trust PSA/DNA's opinion on this one.
Im thinking the same thing but Ive just never seen that style of "B" before. Like you guys said considering where he was signing he couldve been rushed and plus its a small area to write on. I know the other autos are legit on it. Still puzzled by it though
