Star Wars Signed Poster for $75,000! on Pawn Stars! Are You Serious?

Steve Grad brings in a signed Star Wars poster and tries to tell Rick it is worth $75,000!

More proof, Steve should stick to authentication and stay far far away from appraising autographs...

The highest Star Wars Cushing I could find sold last year for $875

I know the R&R piece, it has horizontal creasing thru the photo and white line scratches running across the length of the signature as well. The last 2 so-so 8x10 pieces that ran on ebay went for 2250 (inscribed) and 2550 on a shot with Vader and Fisher, (both not signed.)

I can sell at least 2 more today at a price I name, people have made offers and I have not sold any in years. So you can argue and look up prices on R&R all you want, I handle Star Wars autographs daily and I do know what I am talking about.

I agree with you that the $75k price is a bit over the top, but there are indeed plenty of Star Wars related single signed pieces that regularly top the $5k mark.

Obviously you know more about Star Wars than I. Had no idea any contemporary autographs had that kind of demand. I just dont get it, but than again I dont get why grown up men dress up in Star Wars costumes at these Sci Fi conventions....lol

I, too, am amazed at some of the prices newer signed items are bringing when compared to the older signatures of the legends. Time will tell if those extreme prices will hold up. I do now there is big demand for Peter Cushing and Alec Guinness. Harrison Ford signatures shock me as well. He seems to be a very accommodating signer with plenty on the market though the demand does not seem to wither.

I am wondering if it is limited to rare phenomenons like Star Wars? Seems Star Wars fanatics are a breed onto themselves... A Peter Cushing signed photo sells for $100-200. But on a Star Wars photo many times that.

Same with Alec Guinness. I can buy Alec on a regular photo for under $150 easy but triple or more on a Star Wars photo.

There's a lot more Star Wars fans out there than there are individual fans of Cushing and Guinness. People will buy their autographs solely because of their role in Star Wars, not because they appreciated the actors career.

Guinness and Cushing both didn't sign a tremendous amount of Star Wars stuff, and both died before the autograph craze really exploded.

Take high demand from Star Wars fans, with low supply and you get high prices.

This is not unlike the Marilyn Monroe phenomenon...
The demand for her signed stuff is astronomical.. you see PSA signed photos on eBay for $50,000!

But maybe more surprising is what her UNSIGNED photos are selling for. Last week a couple TYPE I unsigned photos sold on eBay for 3800 and 3500. In September one sold for $4900, Any Type I period photos just in the past couple years I have watched double, triple in value.

Funny , when I was on the show Steve way under-appraised my items, but he has no problem putting absurd values on his own stuff. Why would anyone pay more than $5k for a signed Star Wars poster? And $75k for signed Star Wars cards? Particularly when NO Star Wars signatures are High end and most are relatively or long forgotten unknown celebrities, other then Harrison Ford. And he is only $100 signature with maybe a 2-3x premium for Star Wars medium.
And Rick offers him $100K ? I thought it was more a parody ...;)

As I told the Left Field producer, when they contacted me about ten times this past Spring/Summer to return to do more episodes on the show, Authenticators are NOT appraisers!! Why would dealers like myself want to come back on "Pawn Stars" and have an UN-Qualified appraiser Under value items in front of 6 million people?

PSA should stick to authenticating, they are NOT appraisers. I dont recall seeing any items for sale or appraisal services on the PSA website.
