Hey guys....I'd like your thoughts on this Elvis...

I have a hand written letter from the lady who had this signed detailing how she received this from Elvis...that's her name on the envelope from the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas...

The letter states that she and two other ladies who were on vacation were told by their waitress that Elvis was dining in the Flamingo next door...They approached him and got an autograph or two...The thing that intrigues me about this is the following. The letter that accompanies this states that Elvis signed this on Tuesday February 25, 1969. A little bit of research tells us that Elvis flew from L.A. to Vegas on February 24th.

And that is interesting for two reasons...Elvis was accessible to fans before his full fledged return to Vegas in the summer of '69...plus there is little to no chance that the seller who was "just a fan" would have known if or how to confirm Elvis was in Las Vegas on February 25th, 1969. Fact is he WAS in Vegas on that date...I mention that F.Y.I.

I would appreciate your analysis...thanks in advance...

And now we know....the rest of the story! Very interesting, Don!

I suggest you get a quick opinion from Roger Epperson,  for $15,00 you will get your answer.  Let us know what he replies. Good luck !

Interesting read….

Dan is right about all the Paul Lichter.  Butterfields had almost every one sheet movie poster for sale in the auction and they were all signed - nice and neat.  I was going to bid on one, but they would not guarantee the signature what so ever… sold as is.  LOL.

I still have the catalogue - I will post pictures later tonight if I have time.

This signature I am not too sure about.  Curious to hear what Roger says on it.

Mark

I've seen the Paul Lichter fakes, especially in the said auction catalogue and on his site. I cannot believe that many were in one auctions. Terrible!

The are 2 Elvis Autographs Paul Lichter has for sale on his site right now...

Yep Lichter had hundreds of fakes in that auction, and for years, and years he has been selling bogus "signed" material.

I always see these fakes pop up with a story that it came from someone who met Elvis, but it was never obtained by the actual person who was offering it.  The sellers come from all walks of life so I am never surprised by whom is offering the signature for sale.  Most believe the story they were told when they bought it.  Lichter used to have people who sold on his behalf so they were never tied directly to him.

Regardless of story the signature as a whole needs to stand up for itself, and sadly the one that started this thread IMO does not, and is far to close to the Lichter forgeries.

Hi guys...never dull around here !!

I've got feedback from Mr. E (actually I've had his answer -- review for about two weeks now -- email dated  June 29th)

Don't have time right now but I'll give you that perspective tonight...

O.K. ??

Hope it all works out well Don. This does not look like one of Lichter's at all. Good luck.

Hey guys thank you for being patient with me...

I contacted R.E. about two weeks ago regards this Elvis signature...

He responded that the signature..."is very nice and consistent with that era"...(1969). Of course I agree with him...

Below is a picture of the lady from whom I bought this Elvis signature in person in August of 2003. If you take a moment to look once again at the vintage signed envelope you will see her name on it....Carol Bell.

Sorry to say this photo comes from her obituary notice...Carol Bell Alton passed away in March of last year. You can if you wish Google her obituary....Carol Bell Alton....online for those feeling a need to look for whatever reason...

I will disagree with RE.  This is signature is far from "consistent" with Elvis's signature at any point from the early 1960's to his passing.

Elvis rarely, and I mean rarely signed his name in a dual format for in person signatures after his signing with RCA in 1956.  By that time he was so in demand he had almost exclusively used the one blended signature format.  Again I am referring to in person signatures, not legal documents, or signed items for close friends and family.

The letter formatting is wrong, and Is very consistent with fakes that have been floating around since the early 1990's.

I assume that RE will be certifying this signature for you then?  I would be shocked if he put his name to this.

Have you considered contacting Rich Consola?

We all have opinions on authentic or not, but I'm sorry I have been collecting Elvis's signatures for 30 years and would be stunned if this were authentic.

I would love to see the examples that were used to determine that this signature is "consistent" with Elvis's from the late 1960's.

RE if you are willing to please post the exemplars used?

I would like to see if anyone here can post true authentic examples of Elvis's signature from the late 1960's that match the one in question.  Again not checks, not contracts, but true in person autographs.

Ill start.  This one was signed on Jan 19, 1969 and is from my personal collection.

Does anyone think these two autographs appear  quite similar in letter formation etc. etc.??  I do....

That 3rd and final photo shows Elvis's father Vernon Presley  and yours truly...a 22 year old Don Webster standing directly behind him...that was many moons ago...Yup...the chap with the blond hair and glasses...that's me...
