A 1969 Elvis ....your thoughts welcome....

Hey guys....I'd like your thoughts on this Elvis...

I have a hand written letter from the lady who had this signed detailing how she received this from Elvis...that's her name on the envelope from the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas...

The letter states that she and two other ladies who were on vacation were told by their waitress that Elvis was dining in the Flamingo next door...They approached him and got an autograph or two...The thing that intrigues me about this is the following. The letter that accompanies this states that Elvis signed this on Tuesday February 25, 1969. A little bit of research tells us that Elvis flew from L.A. to Vegas on February 24th.

And that is interesting for two reasons...Elvis was accessible to fans before his full fledged return to Vegas in the summer of '69...plus there is little to no chance that the seller who was "just a fan" would have known if or how to confirm Elvis was in Las Vegas on February 25th, 1969. Fact is he WAS in Vegas on that date...I mention that F.Y.I.

I would appreciate your analysis...thanks in advance...

Sorry but neither are authentic. Only similarities is that both are in felt pen, an ink seldom if ever encountered on an Elvis signature.

So Dan....this entire auction lot that I have posted below that contains 4 Elvis autographs is fake ???

I am simply giving my opinion on each signature being posted regardless of their source.

What I find strange is that thus far each signature you have posted is of a signature style that Elvis seldom used for any in person signatures, and using an ink type that is certainly not common on Elvis signatures at all.

Is there a particular reason you are only posting open opinions on dual formatted signatures using felt pens?

Anyone is welcome to disagree with my opinions. 

Not sure If your comments were sarcastic, or if you were being genuine, but its obvious that your intention is to "prove authenticity" regarding that forged signature you purchased , and posted on the original thread. 

Your time would be better served by submitting your autograph to experts you recognize for their evaluation IN WRITTING.  Thus you can be more comfortable with the signature in question.

Regarding the signatures you posted on the hotel stationary, yes those appear to be authentic. My comments were to exclude that series of signatures, even the dual formatted version.

You were looking for examples of Elvis signing his name later in life that were not joined together...I tried to provide that for you from 1972 and you have proclaimed the example as fake...

Now I'm not sure if you still feel it's fake or if the additional evidence I have just added has changed your mind ?? You stated the signature "To Mary" is bogus...even though it and its 3 companion pieces sold at the Auction at Graceland earlier this year for 68 hundred dollars ?? Is it bogus or not ?? Can you please clarify ??

I am not out to "prove authenticity" on anything but simply looking for opinions and input. You've freely given yours.

Regards your remark..."that forged signature you purchased and posted on the original thread"...if you mean the one below and I assume you do I have written input from both RE and RC. Their verdict was unanimous...authentic... 

As far as how I have been spending my time may I suggest that your time might be better served by taking  a second look at the item below to see if you can see what both RE and RC have seen ??

Hi Steve...These where sold at the Graceland Auction in January of this year. Signed for a Milwaukee police officer I believe at the hotel where Elvis was staying June 14, 1972 if what is left of my memory is clear...lol

Sold for 68 hundred dollars...Dan was asking  members to locate later examples of Elvis signing his name "unconnected" and I tried to provide that with the "To Mary" piece. He then promptly proclaimed it "not original". When I posted the entire auction lot...it appears he had a change of heart..

Thanks for cutting the extra space in your posts!

Graceland is very reputable, but they have only been holding auctions for a few years and none of the lots come from their archives as far as I know. Last year or the year before they removed a good number of signed lots from their auctions when authenticity concerns were brought up to them. The lots were discussed here and removed after they were brought to their attention. They try to do their best.

Have the ones you posted been authenticated by specialists?

Hi Steve...Yes I am aware of the issues that Graceland went through with a number of their signed items last year. Thanks to the good work of some good folks they corrected themselves. How those lots even got to the auction catalogue in the first place is an embarrassing mystery.

There were plenty of bad lots but to me the Million Dollar Quartet signed guitar was the real stinker. Who in their right mind would even consider this authentic after a modest amount of research and consultation ?? Thankfully it too was withdrawn.

To try to answer your questions I believe the Graceland folks have made a genuine effort to really "tighten up" their vetting process ...they had no choice if they wanted to stay in business. But just who is assisting them I do not know. I have sniffed around asking a few questions but no one has provided answers because they either don't know or do know but will not say....

Check out the "signed" guitar below...it's an item Graceland wishes it had never seen...in and then very quickly out of their auction !!

Here is yet another example of Elvis signing his name in "two parts" -- "unconnected" if you will...which if your read through this thread you'll find out we have been schooled to believe that Elvis never signed his name this way later in his career...like the late 1960s....hmmmm...

This signature is from November 1967 and it's in marker pen to boot and comes with documentation...

My my....can you just imagine all that ??

Please do not misrepresent my statements. I was clear in stating that Elvis seldom used his broken signature for in person autographs shortly after his signing with RCA in 1956.

I never he said he didn't do it, as most legal documents contain his two part signature. I specifically noted in person signatures are seldom seen in this format.

I do not believe the signatures in your initial posting are genuine and you have been on a mission to give the appearance that they are. They are your signatures enjoy them. There is no need for you to keep scouring the Internet to find the rare signatures in which Elvis did provide an in person autograph in this format. These examples in no way validate yours, nor does childish sarcasm.

Point is now mute. Have a good night.
