i guys,

I got an autographed picture 12x18inch but I cant find it anywhere. I live in Europe nowadays and its not a common size. I also cant find a decent online shop to order a simple black frame. Looking for some acrylic (glass breaks during transport) and if possible some uv protection so the autograph wont fade.

Where do you guys order it?

And even if I do a custom made one what kinda cm is 12x18.

I see frames from 30x46

But if i use a calculator 12x18 is 30.48 x 45.72cm

And its expensive enough that I dont want to fold the edges.

don't think you will find a frame for that size best bet is to get an custom made one I had to do that for my Rambo 3 signed image.

but where? cant find a decent webshop.

Hi,

Why not just order an anodized aluminum sectional frame online - where you select the sizes of the sides? 12 x 18 is not a problem. That material, anodized aluminum, is the best for autographs as it is inert (it doesn't out-gas like a wood frame and destroy your graphs), it comes is a huge variety of sizes and finishes of all types and is easily assembled with no need for nails etc. A simple screw arrangement. Tight. Good quality. They use pressure clips, simple mat hinge and backboard and glass and spacers- you are set. Also very easily undone.

anodized aliminum?  what about the glass uv radiation and stuff

Something like this:

If you order something like this - two 12" sections and two 18' section, get the glass cut, get an acid free mat with same hanged back, an acid free backboard - you will save a lot of $. And of course, wood is clearly harmful. And use spacers. Custom is $$$. If not in sunlight (crazy) I don't know about UV- it interferes with viewing IMHO. It's a matter of placement to me.

Eric

looking 4 done frames only btw

You limit yourself IMHO and decrease the chances of getting exactly what you want. To each his own. I gave a rather viable solution.

Think im just getting a custom frame. I see them going for 70 bucks here with special uv protection. Big price but the stuff hanging it in is worth much more. So a 10 buck frame isnt going to cut it.

A $10 frame? Nope. Acid free hinged mat at 12x18 for $10? UV acrylic glazing? No. I used to be a framer and was hoping to help with your 10x18 problem with a reasonable solution avoiding the "big" $70 which is not much more then I suggest in total material (frame mats, backing board, spacers, wire etc.) and you know its done right. Someone just told me they had an $$$ graph framed "archival" to find masking tape holding the item up in between aid free mats.

Eric

Edit - "Someone just told me they had an $$$ graph framed "archival" to find masking tape holding the item up in between acid free mats."

PS - Anodized aluminum is the material of choice for the museums I have worked for - it is totally inert not hygyroscopic and has rather little dimensional instability.

Eric

Say, if you can get a custom 12x18 archival frame with UV glazing, spacers. and acid free mat and backboard,  assembled and wired for $70 you are doing better then I am. Should be much more.

Eric
