Over the last months a lot of single Lennon autograph appeared on Ebay. Personally I doubt all of them because of their look. In addition I think the chance to get more than one Beatle on paper is better as to have only one to sign. I heard that there are several very good fakes new on the market and it might be possible that these belong to them. ALL THREE had a "quick look" opinion with a positive result from REAL but this means nothing for me. Just for the matter of discussion - what do you think here?

Hi Bw, will you be taking your own advice and avoiding them from now on?

Yes Paul I will be listening to
Myself and fortunately not buying any of these.

Do your homework...study different styles...ask questions...

Thorsten brought a up good point by saying that you would most likely see other Beatles sig on the signed paper.
How important do you believe provenance is when buying a Lennon?
The fact of the matter is these copied Lennons could have had a coa with them, but there not real.

Lennon i.m.o. is the most difficult to analyse.

He changed his style very often in the year 1963 and then from 1964 to 1970 as well nearly yearly. In addition in the "middle years" he sometimes fell back in an older style. I have seen all of this. I even have seen autographs he wrote one after the other that look different...

I do have a lot of problems with authentification services. They just look on a signature - most likely on a scan - didn`t know the full story behind the autograph or did not know the original owner.

But this is very important. I read a lot of storys coming with several autographs that are impossible - even the autograph at the first look appears to be ok.

John sometimes wrote extremly sloppy so it is nearly impossible i.m.o. to say "yes" or "no" for sure if you don`t know the story or if you don`t have any other Beatle autograph on the same paper.

I prefer sellers who buy from first owners (as Tracks.co.uk). They have seen the person and could see what they have in their collection (tickets, photos, records), know their age and hear the story and in addition could feel if they are telling the truth. Then they can compare that with Beatles history and their autograph archive to check if the story is possible at all..

I own or have owned a few sloppy autographs where an authenticator might say that they look false or at least strange. But I do know the story or do have a photo proof.

(I am planning to make a little you tube feature telling the story of a certain German 1966 autograph set using stills and newsreal footage.)

All this background is missing if you get an email by a so called authenticator saying "looks good to me" or "doesnt look good to me" and cashing a certain sum.

I would not say that this means all these examinations are wrong but I say that it is exremly difficult and one has to be carefull AND double check an opinion with others. An authenticator is just ONE opinion... I would prefer an authenticator who would honestly refuse to say yes or no if the circumstances are not 100% clear.

One should keep that in mind...

Well said.
Do you think these guys sign lennon albums also?

No - if you fake a 1963/1964 Lennon autograph you need to place them on original albums - and these are expensive...

It is simple just to take a piece of paper and try out as long as it looks quite good ;-)

I doubt we will see albums at least from Beatles days. Surely those sloppy awfull mid to late 70ies autographs could be faked on cheap 70ies albums...

What do you think the tpa would say about this if he seen this thread?

What is tpa?

I just realised that all three autographs - not just 2 - had the quick opinion of REAL.

Third party authenticator. Yes Roger, i know you guys are dealers, who are well respected and ive purchased of beatleworld before and Roger, also.
I understand the your concerns and members here about these lennons but id like to hear what Roger has to say about them.
