Here are 2 great examples of forged 500 home run club members that will make a horrible gift for a real collector...the top piece I saw at a show some time ago with no price and what looks to be no hologram...why is there no hologram you may ask....BECAUSE THERE HORRIFIC FORGERIES !!!!!!!!...The piece and frame was quite large so I am sure this probably would have an estimate in the 4 figure range over $1,000.00 considering its size, framing and who "supposed" to have signed it...I saw it both days at the show so I dont think it sold there at the time but this was months ago this year 2011and may have been purchased since then...
On the other hand the bottom piece did sell at auction for a whopping $66.00...thats right $66.00 , thats $6.00 each autograph, now a mediocre autograph of a MLB player that may just be starting should run at least $10.00 to $15.00 wouldn't you think? How would some one think they could ever purchase this piece with the likes of all these greats on there for a measly $6.00 per auto ? Some poor guy has this hanging on there wall thinking that got an awesome piece when it is sadly a garbage forgery all penned by the same guy...A great give away on this piece that should put red flags in a buyers mind is that the lower case "ED" in the Ted Williams auto and the lower case "D's" in the Eddie Matthews auto are absolutely identical...same size...height and style...because they were done by the same hand of course...such as the "style" of the last 2 names of the "Matthews" and "Killebrew" both have the same very similar characteristics as the both lean to the right...not to mention how bad that Killebrew auto is...His auto was always very nice and very legible...Not to mention the good old "HAL" Aaron auto thats always a dead give away and that Mantle that has been plaguing auto collectors for years such as the likes of that Ted Williams which has that distinct "T" that looks more like a "Y"...an automatic give away that The Splendid Splinter did not sign that mess...just a few tips if your looking to purchase a 500 home run piece...if any autos look like any of these fine examples of forgeries...chances are the entire piece is forgery...Please feel free to leave comments as I hope I was able to educate some collectors out there with intentions of buying one of these pieces...and like I always say..."Just because your buying a cheap autograph doesn't mean its authentic...just a cheap forgery"
