I found this at a barn auction a bit ago and I love the look and age of it! I am into vintage racing and this is a perfect fit for my collection.

I was thinking that an auto would be the perfect addition to the item but have some questions and reservations about that. i am hoping you all could shed some wisdom.
Here are my concerns and questions:
1) How hard is AJ Foyt to get signed?
2) Where would I catch him for a signing or would I be better off doing a mail in?
3) Would you have the newspaper itself signed or if not where would you have it signed and how would you have it displayed?
4) If I had the parchment signed how could I prove provenance afterwards ?
Anyway I think it would be a cool piece of racing history and hope I can fiqure this out.
Thanks for any help!

AJ is a VERY hard autograph to obtain. He doesn't sign much...catching him at an Indycar event is the best..Don't even try at the Indy 500 though.
You might try emailing his handlers and working a deal out. Ask if they will provide a letter attesting to him signing it as well.
Keep us updated
Hey Scott,
I have written A.J. on numerous occassions, and have always received a reply back from him. He has always been an easy autograph to obtain, and the last time I corresponded with him was a couple of years ago. He is getting older however, and has dealt with some health issues in the last few years.
The Indy Star newspaper reports you have from 1964 probably would not be the ideal items to have signed. Both Eddie Sachs & Dave MacDonald were good friends of A.J., and their trajic deaths are something that Mr. Foyt would probably wish to forget. Likewise, newspapers are made out of a high acid content paper, and are subject to toning, oxidation, and deteoriation over time. Furthermore, if you mail the newspapers to him there is no guarantee that you'll get them back.
I would suggest surfing the internet for a nice photgraph of him. It could be his 1961 victory at Indy in the front engined roadster, the 1967 Le Mans GT-40 winner, or the 1972 Cyclone he took the checkered flag with at Daytona. Just pick out a nice picture, print it out on your computer, and mail it to him.
Let me know if you need his address. Good luck!
W.W.
Thanks for the replies!
I will say that the comments are diametrically opposed and that's kinda weird!
W.W. After retrospect I'm sure your right about the race being a melancholy memory for Mr. Foyt. i think that maybe a separate pic may be the best approach. I'm thinking about maybe trying to find a vintage photo of him with each car he won a 500 in and sending that. I would really appreciate the address if you would be so kind!
