for finding shops and signings you have to keep your ears and eyes open....listen to sports radio and check the web for things happening in your area.

Is there a website that posts events and signings for nationwide stuff?  I already saw the website for the National Sports Collectors Convention for cleveland next year, but I wanted to go to some shows to look at memorabilia and autos.

What do you all think about the private signings and sending your items in? I see Tristar having a private Tom Brady signing but its damn near the same price to get a football signed as it is to just buy one off their site?

Millcreek sports does stuff like that all the time.  I have never sent anything in but those guys are pretty decent and would talk to you over the phone about it.  Most of their stuff in based in Seattle sports though. They did do a Bo Jackson one not to long ago. 

exactly because they are trying to make money doing this. they have to pay the celebrity too...

Millcreek is good.seller with nice stuff. I do question their Tillman sigs though. Pretty sure they acquired them based off the PSA authentication of them. I don't think those are legit.

so are you saying that buying an autographed ball from someone thinking its authentic because of the PSA/DNA cert and number is not ok to do?  I thought that is what they are for.  This site has me so scared and second guessing everything so I am afraid to pull the trigger and buy. 

I see a ton of UD stuff on ebay but their older stuff didnt have holograms on the balls so who is to say that someone isnt keeping the "real" ball and forging a ball and taking photos of it next to the UD COA and box and everything?

If you stick with PSA/DNA or JSA authenticated sports autographs, your chance of getting a bad one is very small.

Authentication is not a science so they do make mistakes, but the % especially on sports autographs is small.

Their LOAs are accepted by every major auction house in the US and there are hundreds of millions of dollars sold every year with their LOA. For that reason, if you ever want to sell the item, it is no problem.

UD is obviously an absolutely safe option since they witnessed every signature. Stick to the ones with the hologram # matching the LOA #. All of their items even the early ones had a hologram so stay away from any items that do not.

You will normally have to pay more for UD authenticated ones due to the fact that there is no chance of error.

For the most part and the more common sports names PSA/DNA and JSA are usually dead on. I would recommend them actually for new collectors.

But on the same note I would also advise a collector to learn signatures before buying entertainment, music or not so common sports signatures based solely on a third party sticker.

Nothing wrong with being very cautious. That's actually a good thing. It will slow down impulse buys.

if you like collecting autographs....then I`d say before you buy any autograph you do your research on the sig and the seller of the autograph before you purchase....you can always ask for help too...this hobby is real risky....their are a ton of forgers out there...so you have to be careful...

do your research before you buy....or get the sigs in person yourself.....

from where I live and the lack of opportunities getting them in person is almost not an option.

Ky doesnt even have a pro team.  we have the reds and bengals but thats it. I got to training camp and reds games but I really want to branch out and get some of the classics and really start a good collection

The Moeller High School Card Shows in Cincinnati, OH would be a good place to start. They usually have a couple of shows a year. Normally, they have one the weekend of Thanksgiving but I cannot find one scheduled for this year. I think their last one was in April of this year. They have a lot of dealers and normally a few signers mainly from the old time Reds.
