The Itoya Polyglass products sold at Michaels and Hobby Lobby are pretty good. Otherwise, Bags Unlimited online has just about every possible protective item you could want.
I just woke up... However Bags Unlimited is the same company I use for just about everything I want to hang on to. Scott
I currently put many of my items in pvc free top loaders. Is this an ok storage method or will I eventually have problems? I like them as they can be handled without getting any wear.
The general consensus I hear is not to use those. The PVC can actually damage the signatures (and photos) over the long term - you'll notice that some of the older toploaders have yellowed. In general, they're okay for temporary storage, or if you're looking to mail a photo. They seem to have a legacy of causing problems with paint pens in particular, as the chemicals in the toploader can actually lift the signature right off. That being said, toploaders won't necessarily always damage or destroy your stuff over a period of a few years. But they do represent a bit of a risk.
Thank you for the link. The polyester pockets sound good for the long run.
Richard booth, they are flimsy thought, aren't they? I am concerned about bending from being handled.
If you have a look at Michael's or Hobby Lobby, find the Itoya ringed binders. The pages have an acid free backing that should be sufficient to prevent bending. There are also individual polyglass sleeves which are even more sturdy.
If Michaels of Hobby Lobby don't have the exact sizes you're looking for, you can easily order Itoya products cheaply on Ebay.
