Autograph Protection Question

Hi Guys

I was wondering how long should autographs last if you store them correctly? I currently use Polyester Pockets to store the photos - some still look as good as the day I bought them. 

The reason I ask is because I may have to downsize my collection and my real concern is the inks may fade - generally speaking, does anyone know how long the autographs last in the acetates before they begin to fade?

I'd rather not part with my autographs but I see I have little choice should I face tough financial times ahead. I'd rather get it sorted within the next year, if I wish to sell them on to an interested buyer/dealer. I can't afford to authenticate them all. 

Any suggestions on protection and what steps I need to make?

If they are stored in a binder, there really shouldn't be any fading. direct light is the cause for most fading.

The only thing I have noticed quite a bit lately is that the advent of color home printers has left piles of sharpie signed photos where the sharpie ink is now spreading ....sort of like a sharpie signed baseball.

If you have items that are not lab produced photographs (printed on a home color printer).....those would be the ones with the shortest lifespan.

Couldn't tell you if they were printed on a home printer or lab produced - I try not to take them out of their home too often. I just wanted an est. lifespan on the longevity of autographs, should I store them in the binders and when the best time would be to try and get a reasonable return on my original investments, should I decide to go down that road. I don't want to, but because of my circumstances, I may not have a choice.
