So, if I'm following correctly, the JSA Basic Cert is basically the "we don't want to pay much attention to this but here's your sticker anyway" type of authentication.  I stumbled upon this last night.  It's a mess.  It doesn't even really look rushed - just bad.  I'm trying to see what JSA was looking at here that would prompt them to give this a pass.  I'm not seeing it.  Bono has given more than his share of ugly/bizarre autographs in the past, but if it doesn't clearly exhibit his standard signing traits, you're authenticating it based on what?

This reminds me of whenever I see an Al Pacino or some Barack Obama's...?   Very little to work with , just scribbles.  So I always wonder what exactly is there to authenticate?

The difference here is that you're just about guaranteed to get a short, sloppy autograph from Pacino and Obama (with Pacino, it's just about inevitable you'll get a garbage scribble that would be embarrassing to display).  But Bono actually has a decent, distinct autograph  - it's not necessarily just the awful rushed "B" sig that rackers get and try to peddle for $300-400.

I may be wrong, but the Edge in the above photo looks off, and the Bono looks very strange. As far as the JSA certed Bono above, Rich you may want to leave a note on Roger Eppersons wall asking him to comment on this piece. As JSA's music authenticator, more than likely he looked at this piece. If he did, then he would probably be able to give you much more info about why it was certed.

Joined this site thinking it was autograph collectors helping each other here maybe i got the wrong idea! but when you are disabled with nothing better to do in life it makes my day to recieve autographs in the post.

Sorry i wont post anymore if all you get is rude comments

Look, the intent was not to attack.  The topic began with a questionable (at best) Bono autograph certified by JSA.  You posted an autographed photo that looks pretty decidedly forged for comparison.  When I mentioned that it doesn't look authentic, you said you got it from their manager.  When I questioned how you knew him and that I was not aware of him getting autographs for fans, you said you got it through the mail.  That's where we are.

I take it this is forged too is it and that came from Deep Purple PA

I think the Deep Purple is probably good. It compares with one that i have, and the Moorse signature compares to several LPs in my collection.

The U2 photo though did look very suspect. No disrespect their at all, it just looks a little sketchy to me. The formation seems off on most of the signatures, and the Edge looks way off to me. If you want to be sure though, and get an expert opinion, Roger Epperson will give a quick opinion for 15 dollars, and its well worth it. He is the top music authenticator in the world and if he says its good then you will know for sure. Good luck.

This is ok. :)

I know the Steve Morse in this photo is likely real. I have received his autograph in person and this looks authentic. He draws the guitar under his signature.

It is often a risk to give opinions on autographs as some people take it personal.   On the other hand, I personally understand how painful it can be when an autograph I was so excited to acquire turns out to be fake.  I get between 5-20 emails a day from my website asking for opinions on autographs.  I usually don't give out random opinions anymore because some people get hostile if they don't get the answer they wanted.
Last week an edlerly woman sent me a signed photo of Frank Sinatra she got about 40 years ago.   I didn't have the heart to tell her...  I mean what's the point as she was not going to sell anyway.

Apparently, Kevin's remedy for coping with the pain of having a forgery is to sell the forgery:
