Just looking for help to identify some of the signatures on this pair of boxing trunks.. The trunks were signed during an event on March 11 1996 - sponsored by the Lonsdale Sporting Club in New York... I can spot Joe Frazier and Floyd Patterson and Leroy Neiman but stumped on mostly all the others... Any help is appreciated!  (I'm relatively new to posting on this great website...) Thanks!  Tom

Hey Tom:

First of all, I don't think you have Joe Frazier there. That appears to be the signature of his son, Marvis (a decent heavyweight but not in dad's league whose only losses were first round stoppages by Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson).

The other autographs I recognize are:

Jose Torres, Davey Jones, Joey Giradello, Carlos Ortiz, and Joey and Jimmy Archer.

But those are most of the easy ones.

Sidney!  Thanks for the reply and leads!  I really appreciate the info and help!

Tom Joe frazier is there it's under the one that looks like bobby something

Thanks AC - based on other Smoking Joe signatures, I thought the same thing!

Tom

You're right.

So busy looking at the Marvis that I missed the Joe.

Thanks for the correction.

And...I see now the signature just above and to the left of Joe Frazier is Emile Griffith.  And the one just above that is Gil Clancy.

The "bobby" looks like Bobby Bartels to me. (Fought in the 50/60s out of NYC). The one on the extreme right looks like Vinnie something, two most famous Vinnie boxers were Vinnie Pazienda and Vinnie Curto, doesn't look like either of their sigs (Pazienda signs "Vinnie Paz" alot). I agree that second from the top (right) is Marvis Frazier, he has very distictive first name sig. I also think the sig that is right above Emile Griffith is Gil Clancy,  a famous manager/trainer.

Yes...the "Bobby" below Carlos Ortiz's signature may well be Bobby Bartels, a welterweight from New York in the late 50's through mid 60's. He fought Jimmy Archer.
