has anyone purchased any of the "signed by the author" books that chapters is selling (http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/books/autographed-editions)? can anyone vouch for their authenticity?

i'm considering the martin short autobiography and possibly amy poehler's, as well. they're not crazy expensive, but i would hate to get a pre-print or an assistant's "signature."

thanks for your opinions! :)

I can't vouch for Chapter's, but Book Ends in NJ has a big selection of signed books. I'm fairly certain every signed book they have is from in-store signings they have hosted. (Martin Short was there a few weeks ago, so they have signed copies of his book.) I'd be very comfortable buying from them.

brian, thanks for the information! the problem with buying anywhere else is that i'm canadian and the exchange ends up making fhings way too expensive. :(

Ahh. That stinks. Well, it looks like you have 30 days to return items to Chapters. If you got bad feedback on the signed items from members here, you could return them. Good luck!

Agree - Books Ends is the best!

Or you can try Barnes and Noble in store. They have a lot of Signed Copies of books and all are real from past signings.

thanks, but again: i'm canadian. barnes and noble doesn't exist here.
Chapters should be fine.

A lot of people here are discussing Bookends in NJ.

For anyone who happens upon this, I feel that I should that I should mention that, while they take orders for signed books at list price (plus shipping), they also act as an autograph dealer and adjust their prices accordingly on some of the bigger names.

They have a lot of books from big name past signings in stock still because their prices reflect market value, rather than list price, like standard chain bookstores.
