Hi all...We have two old autograph photos of Dale Earnhardt when he was driving the #2 car.  We are trying to verify if those signatures seem authentic.  They are in two different styles but I do understand that his signature actually changed throughout his career.

One of the photos even has the signature along with written " #2 " on the photo.  I'm not 100% sure that means it was signed during the same time period when Earnhardt was driving under the #2 car but I would doubt that Earnhardt would sign like that at any other time in his career.

These photos are part of my wife's father's estate that was passed on to her.  Her father and grandfather were HUGE NASCAR fans and were particularly fond of Earnhardt from his rookie start onward.

We would think that if the signatures were 100% authentic and the nature of the photographs, that these would be very rare as it was from a time of when Earnhardt was a rookie and it's an insight to history.

Any thoughts?

While I am not an expert, I do have a couple of Dale Earnhardt autographs obtained in-person. The second autograph appears to me to be an authentic example of his autograph later in his life. I can't say about the first, as I am not at all familiar with his signature early in his career.

Thanks!  I agree with your view that the autograph on the second picture looks more like the signature from later in his career.  It's very well possible that my father-in-law came across an older picture of Dale Earnhardt and asked him to sign it later in his career.

The first one intrigues me, though.  I could be wrong but I wouldn't think that Dale Earnhardt would sign anything (even an old photograph of him) with the " #2 " later in his career.

With the signature looking different, that's what concerns me.

great item!

Second one is almost certainly a Reprint..I have seen many of this same photo  floating around..My opinion not live ink on the photo but rather a copy of a signed photo..the first one..wow that's a tough one...I would say no..but ask Brandon Mysinger on here..the guy is a Nascar expert on signatures..But my money would say no on both and for sure no on the second..
