Famous Leroy? Help identify this New Yorker signature

I'm having trouble figuring this signature out. Can anyone tell me who signed this? It looks like Leroy Masherd or Macheod or ? The post mark is 1937.

Been looking at it a while -

The first letter of the first name is the same at the first letter after Mac - correct - is it an "L"

Do you agree the first name is Leroy?

I agree the both letters you mention could be an "L" but I thought the second one could also be an "H" possibly.

The last name could be MacLerd maybe?

thanks for looking

You Rock. Thanks.
It turns out he is a famous Hoosier which makes sense. The collection I purchased is from a southern Indiana family.
