Hi all, I'm new here and new to collecting. Can anyone recommend one of the free mailing address websites? I have already read some less-than-glowing reviews about Star Pulse (which requires a subscription) so I was wondering are they all a crap shoot, or is there one that seems to be consistently more reliable than others? Also, what are your general opinions about sending items to be autographed and your personal success rates going this route? Thanks in advance for the help! DG
I should have pointed out in my original post, I'm mostly interested in 70s and 80s music (Toto, Fleetwood Mac, Chicago, Sheila E., Tom Petty, Joan Jett, etc.) and TV (Cheers, Three's Company, Night Court, etc.). I'm also interested in JFK/Jackie/Marilyn/RFK and the JFK assassination, so I probably don't need or can't use a place like sportscardforum. Ryan, I've been looking at Fanmail.biz for about an hour now. How do you determine "those who had a high return rate"? Thanks again!
Agreed. And only waste your stamps with a high return rate.
I agree with Ryan on those 2 and also I pay $4.95 per month for StarTiger that has done me very well
A lot of the people mentioned Doug do not sign through the mail or send only preprints etc. If you come up with say 20 names you'd really like I can have a look at Star Tiger etc and see if anyone has any recent successes. I recently got Patti labelle, Joe Cocker and Phil Collins ttm and some happily sign
Goodness Dan, that's a generous offer! I appreciate it. I don't mind doing the homework myself, I'd just like to find a consistent, reliable source for addresses that I don't have to pay for (which may be too much to ask). If you'd like to inbox me Dan, feel free, or hit me up on my regular email. I'd specifically like to get the cast of "Cheers" (Ted Danson, Kirstie Alley, Kelsey Grammer, Bebe Neuwirth, Rhea Perlman, George Wendt, John Ratzenberger), Markie Post of "Night Court", Joyce DeWitt & Priscilla Barnes of "Three's Company". Musically, the members of Toto, (Steve Lukather, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, Joseph Williams, Bobby Kimball, Nathan East). There are a lot of others, but if you have some reliable addresses for these, I'd appreciate it immensely. And of course, if any (all) of these people aren't reliable, then that's okay too. (And I'd LOVE a Phil Collins auto!) Thank you again, sincerely. Are preprints the pics that are given out to fan club members, usually on flimsy paper, with a write-up about the artist or something like that?
Hi Doug preprints mean the photo isn't actually signed they signed one and then made photocopies of it basically a copy on photo paper also autopens mean the signature is done in ink but was signed by a robot and not a human hand. Most ttm are preprints, autopens or signed by an assistant but if you do the homework you can find out who signs for real.
address wise just check on a site like fanbiz how many recent success there are for the star the more current people posting successes and the more recent the success is increases your chances.
Thank you for the info Steven. Is there an easy way to tell if it's a preprint or an autopen or an original? I used to be into baseball, and would occasionally send some cards to spring training, and got a few back. Of course, those were easy to tell they were original sigs, but now that I've ventured out into history, TV, and music, and will probably be sending 8x10s, I don't know if I'll be able to tell the difference. Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you again! DG
Hi Doug, no worries, give me a couple of days and I'll come back with those who do or don't sign via mail
Thank you again Dan. That's incredibly nice of you. I appreciate it. DG
