I would like to see him return but he needs to chill a little.
Based on my personal observations many of the most succesful in-person collectors (and even dealers such as Roger Epperson) are confident, overly so, even bordering on arrogant at times. I would almost consider it a prerequisite rather than a consequence.
I used to "graph' a bit in the eighties until I was turned off by the whole thing. Watching grown men beg was pathetic. Guys would talk autographs and their various conquests and it would be quite calm until the stars came out then it would be a feeding frenzy with pushing shoving and being blocked out. Most signatures under those circumstances were just not like the neatly signed stuff at sitdowns. I really don't see that the graphers are that much better at "authenticating" than the armchair guys with examplars. Watch youtube and see some of those clowns in action. Its got to be much worse now unless your a very good stalker.
I agree completely. I spent plenty of time taking days off from work, spending cash to go into the city and "graph." More often than not, you leave empty handed or with substandard scribbles. I got to meet and hang out with some of the everyday hounds, and made the right connections to deal directly with them instead of their "dealers."
Anyone who claims to be a better authenticator than the professionals based solely on TTM responses and being in the trenches, I take their statements with a grain of salt. Especially if they are commenting on multiple aspects of the hobby. Einstein, Beatles, Floyd, Harrison Ford, etc.
I do believe that Steiger likely has been in front of members of Floyd and probably Harrison Ford too, but I am highly doubtful that his/her experience with George Harrison or Einstein is beyond what any of us could learn by watching auction items and certified pieces.
You won't hear me comment on anything beyond modern celebrity autographs, and it will only be the celebs that I have met repeatedly, or the people I have collected for years.
Most collectors specialize in certain fields, this is why many of the TPA have repeat problems. Letting a guy who has collected baseball autographs for 10 years put stickers on a Scarlett Johansson or Carrie Fisher 8x10s is just begging for errors.
I know whos opinion I want on any Harrison Ford!
haha - love it
