Hey everyone! So I've always had a small collection of fun stuff, but recently I realized it was time to cut down a bit to regain some of the cash I've spent or even make some. A couple of years back I went to a memorabilia show and came across a guy doing the exact same thing, cutting down on his collection for significantly reduced prices because he was a bit desperate for money. I feel like he was legit because he had many items signed IP with pictures to back it up including a guitar from Pearl Jam among others. However, one item of his caught my eye in particular, a first act guitar signed by all of the members of metallica that was relatively cheap (between 200-300 if i remember) because he had lost the pictures or authentication certificate so he was being forced to pretty much give it away. Being about 12-13 (18 now) I coughed up all of the pennies i had saved up and brought it home with me. I never hung it up or even displayed it, it has been sitting in its original box since the day I got it. Now I'm trying to figure out if it's authentic or not so i can determine if it's worth it to cough up the $100 to try to get it authenticated from JSA (they're local). If anyone has any ideas on if it's authentic or not or what it's worth please let me know!

Well he lied to you on how he acquired it if he said he got it in person.

Not real at all..

I don't believe it is real either. Just met these guys again last month. Got Lars, Robert and Kirk to sign a picture of my grandson wearing a Metallica shirt for his first birthday. Clearly not a dealer item. Who else would buy a photo of my grandson? Robert signed a couple of things for me. Kirk signed three. Lars signed on my grandson's face and also did an album for me. Thanks for the signature, but did you have to sign on his face? All three also took photos with me. And then there is James. Did not sign, look, wave, blink or say a word. I walked beside him for a full minute and a half begging to get the photo of my grandson done. Holding it up to show that the other three guys signed. Third generation Metallica fan. His escorts even came back inside and apologized to me. So, I would be highly suspect of anyone claiming to get James in person. I had inside access and had him virtually alone for that time before he got to the crowd and the only thing I walked away with was a cold shoulder. Buyer beware.

Interesting!

How do these fraudsters get away with selling fakes?

They should be prosecuted.
