Sir Paul was in my town a month back, so I tried to meet him.  It was only about 4 of us at the airport and I thought he might actually sign for us. He did roll down the window and wave.  I still think that was pretty cool.  He didn't even have to do that… just could have keep driving.

NOW - I tried to meet him when he was leaving. Still only about 4 of us.   It was cold and late at night.. which is ok - part of the game.  His body guard came over and asked us to leave the parking area and wait by the street.  Really… ok no worries we can just wait in the grass.  He then went on to say - Paul has not stop to sign anything this tour - BUT if he does you have to write "YOUR NAME" "the CITY we are in" and the "Date".  REALLY???  At the time I didn't raise a fuss, but later on I really wish I had.  The reason we had to write all the crap on our album was because of "Ebay" according the to body guard.  Really EBAY!!  Please… Is Ebay really hurting Paul McCartney.   I wanted to say… instead of complaining about ebay - why doesn't he just charge a fee and donate it to his favorite charity.  Still has me shaking my head….  I am glad I didn't write all that crap on the album and ruin it.  Oh - and Paul didn't stop btw.

Hi Mark, I follow Paul very closely and I think it's more about being willing to do it for fans but not for profiters. His time is very valuable. I think that is why. I've also gotten a wave along with about 30 other fans when he arrived at a stadium show last year. Amongst the fans, there were about 5 sore thumbs that were obviously there for profit only. Paul is still very generous with fans about signing but the demand is just too great.

Yea mccartney has got tougher and tougher! I got him at the airport a few years back and only a handful of chasers and all he signed was his first name!! It's not even worth chasing him anymore in my opinion!! Like 300 people follow him from city to city now and they all work for the same dealer that is what spoiled it! I talked to Paul's head of security and he even said when we recognize the same people every city I started calling then out and paul started being selective and having me quiz his fans !! That's how I got my last one was passing a quiz about sgt peppers!! The days of old paul rolling down the window and just inking his name are over!! It was fun while it lasted!!

Again - there were only 4 of us. And we are all just rednecks.. ;)

I wish and was hoping...… but it was no dice

from what I have heard and seen, Paul may sign if he is doing what he considers to be 'work'  i.e at concerts, doing promotion somewhere etc . If it is personal time, its very unlikely he will sign ( once outside a recording studio in London when i was the only person there , he said he couldnt sign (politely) as this was 'personal time' , even though he was there recording ! . I suppose I had no reason to know he would be there, therefore he considered it to be his own time.  Further to this, if he thinks you are a collector for whatever reason, there's not much chance (eg carrying beatles vinyl records). Being polite and courteous always helps from my experience with him.

I read this awhile back and truly felt your frustration.  I am sure we have all had similar long and fruitless ventures in this hobby.  I am going to try what I am sure will end up being a failed venture here in Charlottesville at the airport this coming week.. Can you give me any insights into how you approached your attempt?  As in, amount of time before the show that you waited, where you waited, etc?  I will be most appreciative, because even though I know the chances are next to nil, I have to at least try.  Thanks much!
