UPDATE (9-23-2022): I SOLD this Guitar to a collector in Germany!!!
This was my 70s (at the latest 1975, because Harmony ceased business in 1975. I've seen another one of these guitars for sale with an original receipt dating 1971) Les Paul clone made by Harmony that has been boldly signed in some form of felt tip pen by John Lennon in 1976 below the bridge. It is inscribed:
"To Fred Love John lennon (Doodle) 76"
Anyone know of any other John Lennon Autographed guitars? I know a few were signed at WFIL and I know a Frank Sinatra impersonator who got an epiphone acoustic signed at WFIL. There's also one signed in green felt tip pen to a "Jesse" in 1975.
I was EXTREMELY TEMPTED to alter this by removing the inscription of "To Fred". I'm not "Fred" & I've never sold or been inquiredto by a "Fred". It's signed in a felt tip pen on a slick surface so a little alcohol on a cue tip would get it right off without anything left behind. Leaving it makes it less appealing and partial to a niche name group, but keeping it adds more forensics to justify the piece. Whst should I do?
In 2019 i was stricken with a horrible bartonella bacteria infection from a cat scratch thst was not properly cleaned which caused damage to my frontal lobe. Here recently I suffered a silent stroke and have been having many cognitive issues and have been contemplating future decisions on what to do with my collection. I have sold a handful of items already to fellow collectors and beatles fans (In August Gottahaverockandroll auctions sold my John Lennon signed copy of imagine with multiple COAs including 1 from Frank Caiazzo!!!)
