Lennon/Ono signed grapefruit book on Dec 8th 1980.Hours before he was killed.

I was offered a chance to buy this signed Grapefruit book last week,It was signed for Laurie Kaye who was part of the RKO radio team that interviewed the Lennons on the afternoon of Dec 8th 1980(hours before his death).It also comes with a copy of a photo that was taken with Laurie and the Lennons on that afternoon.Sorry about the blurry photo.Asking price was 33k.I passed on it a week ago ,I do want to go back to him with a counter offer.what do u guys think it is worth.any thoughts would be appreciated.thx in advance.

Paul H, you may remember in the Sotherbys Rock and Pop auction, the one where you won a signed Beatles photo, there was a signed Double Fantasy that was beautifully signed to the inner sleeve, it was, apparently, signed on his last day at the same interview as this book, it had an estimate of £15-£20k and did not sell.

I remember it ,I also remember talking with Sotheby’s about the auction and they said that it was a big let down.You would think this lp would be worth at least that much.well based on that you really have to.scratch your head to figure out what this book is worth.

It's one of the last things Lennon signed on the day he was murdered....it's a fantastic piece.....the thing is with Lennon items...if you want it....something he signed.....something

he owned...something he touched...or something he wore....you're going to have to pay for it. He's the #1 name in the memorabilia market. He's become an historical figure...

what an incredible item. Paul, if you are looking at it as part of your collection, they you personally establish the value. If you are looking at it as an investment, that is a tough one, as not sure the item would increase in value substantially more than it is now. but what a great piece.

I like your signed photo much more because the book is just to sad in my opinion, even when i was looking at the holiday cards John wrote, best for the new year and he didnt make it into the new year.
Its still a great item!

Hi terrier,I thought the same too.I have to admit even though this is one of my passions,I still look at this for an investment alsoI think you would be crazy not to.after 36 years of his passing maybe u are correct ,maybe this piece has hit it's investment ceiling.but exactly what is that figure.
I've Been lookin at it for a week now trying to figure it out and I think personally a fair price would be around the 20k range like Paul said .It is a fantastic item!

yes, I agree somewhere between 20 and 25K. I do not believe you will ever be hurt by owning this item at that price, Paul. You can always look at it this way, if you can get it at that price level, and enjoy it for many years, even if you just get your money back if/when you sell, it would seem to be worthwhile. talk about a piece of history. Its an amazing piece.
