When I go to Cooperstown for the H.O F weekend, I am going to be in the market for a vintage autographed ball....I believe I want a Mantle,Dimaggio or Williams ball. My hope is to someday be able to get one of each (depending on my future budge) So, if you were to buy only one ball, who would it be. (Figure around a $500 budget)

The most valuable, currently, of the 3 is Mantle.  For 500, if you are patient, you could get a Mantle and a Williams for about that amount, perhaps a little more.  But I wouldn't purchase it up in Cooperstown, it will be overpriced, if authentic.

While Ebay has its serious faults, it is also a place where if you know what you are doing, you can still get bargains.  We can help you, if you find something you are interested in, post it and we can give you opinions.

A Mickey mantle autographed ball may cost more than 500 depending on inscriptions and condition of the signature, but if you look for one, you can find a nice ball for the right price. In Cooperstown though there are many memorabilia shops, but very expensive.

if your goal is to fill your collection immediately, then yes, you can spend 400 or so on a nice Mantle ball (no inscription).   But I have purchased, in the last two years, a perfect 10 Mantle ball for under 300 on Ebay.  Same with Dimaggio.  you just have to keep looking and have patience.  Williams can be had for even less.

Picked up this ball last night. Reputable guy from Cooperstown....Upper Deck Authentication...came in the box in the draw string bag wit two items of documentation.
