Meet & Greet Experiences
As far as autograph collecting and music fan experiences goes, I find the range of stories I hear about various meet & greets to be pretty fascinating. I've heard of people paying modest fees (or nothing) for wonderful, fun experiences - and other stories of fans shelling out large amounts of money for a massive disappointment. And, of course, everything in between.
I thought we should have a comprehensive thread on the topic. Have you been to a pre-show or post-show meet and greet or know someone who has? Was it a bargain or a ripoff? What was the mood - structured and hurried or casual and fun?
My favorite band does meet and greets at every headline show they perform on this tour, chosen at fandom by fans who sign up for their fanclub and enter the show-specific drawing. There is no charge, and (usually) I don't believe a show ticket is even required. They were asked about this in an interview early this tour, and the response from one of the band members, Martin, was pretty passionate about musicians who charge high prices for meet & greets. FYI: I get that this band isn't quite a household name yet, so there might be a sentiment of "Who are they to say . . ." However they have an interesting perspective as both successful musicians with Top 10 records and huge music fans themselves).

Blink 182 VIP packages, though only the $150 and $400 levels include any sort of meet and greet experience.

So here is the signed guns n roses lithograph that was at the meet and greet for 2500, I picked the signed poster for a small fee.

Interesting - saw the ad for An Evening with Priscilla Presley. One of the ticketing options includes a meet and greet. $255.

I still like the impromptu "by the bus" meet and greets. They just require a little bit of time and patience, and the understanding that nothing is guaranteed. But something like this just can't be beaten - here'a video I took clip of Birdy hanging out with some fans post show.

I prefer the meet and greets under controlled circumstances as it means you're guaranteed to get what you came for.
I was lucky to get Elton for free basically and the price for Arnold's meet and greet photo op, to me, was an absolute steal.

It can go either way. I'll pay for the guarantee, as long as the price is right and it's someone I really want to meet. That makes most of the paid events I see at concerts or conventions less than appealing these days.
Primary things for me isn't so much the price - I'd pay a nominal fee for a Birdy meet & greet. But the by the bus hangouts are more relaxed and more fun with less of the awkwardness inherent of a paid event. We did queue up by ourselves, and about half the fans who initially stayed were gone by the time Birdy came outside to chat with us. There was no handler, no real timeline or limitations. I only asked for a couple of things signed, but she would have signed whatever I wanted. She recorded video messages for fans' friends. Above all, she was just such a genuinely lovely person who seemed more than happy to be spending her evening with us.
Even organized ones can be great. A local radio station botched a meet & greet contest with Purity Ring a couple weeks back, leaving my friend and I as literally the only two people who showed up. So, even though it was technically "organized," it was basically just my friend and I hanging out with Megan and Corin and chatting. Low pressure for sure. Of course, this is not common.

Most of the paid meet and greets or photos are generally a reasonable price. Some are a shade expensive but worth it, considering it is a rare opportunity.
For me, Arnold is one of my childhood heroes and to pay, for me, a nominal fee to meet him was worth every penny.
That said, I do enjoy meeting people out and about whenever I can but being in the area I am, it's hard to do that.
