Hi Everyone, I would like peoples opinion on the authenticity of this autograph. I have been collecting Jordan memorabilia for quite awhile and believe in to be authentic but I had a quick opinion done by PSA and they say its 'likely not genuine'. I know in the past people have personally got items signed then requested PSA opinion ans they said 'likely not genuine' even though the person actually got the item signed themselves in person so PSA have got there opinion wrong in the past. Would like some input..Thanks P.S. I have asked PSA as to how they came up with there opinion and if they took in to account the surface being signed on and the stitching that could make it harder to sign on and am awaiting there response.
it looks perfect to me but im no pro on MJ autos
Hats are always difficult. Formation wise this looks pretty good, but if PSA gave you the "Likely Not Genuine" I would pass on account that they may know something that we do not.
I think it looks pretty good to me also. Even though PSA say that I have asked them why and have got no response but I assume that they would say that to any MJ auto if it doesnt look identical to an Upper Deck authenticated just to cover their ass in case it isnt genuine. I got a 'likely genuine' from AMA but have since googled them and they do not seem to have the best reputation. I wish there was a reputable authenticator here in Australia but there isnt that I know of and JSA do not do Quick Opinions and I was going to try Global but I think there reputation has been tarnished due to some of the issues that have come from their authenticators.
I agree. Just covering their ass. I live in Australia and to send to PSA it would cost probably around $100 or more just for for shipping each way and then there's the cost of the authentication service so if it was to be given a ''Not Authentic" verdict than that's just too much to be out of pocket for an apparent fake. I wish Australia would catch up on the memorabilia front and services that go with it.
I'm guessing that Jordan is one of the areas where PSA would be especially stingy, given the default likelihood of forgery as Jordan is probably among if not the most forged signature the past two decades or so.
I don't understand how/why they would deem this gronk not genuine. it is perfect.
I think it is good signed for MJ
I do understand that MJ is unfortunately a highly forged autograph but I wish PSA wouldnt be like this especially when it is a auto like this that looks pretty dead on. There is an auto on eBay at the moment that has been authenticated by JSA and the auto looks terrible compared to this and i thought JSA were more strict than PSA. I also thank every one that has had there input on this and am feeling even more confident about my purchase. The guy I purchased it off seems very genuine to me and said he has been collecting MJ memorabilia for 20 years and assures me it is authentic. I know it has some differences to other MJ auto like this one deosnt have the defined 'L' in jordan which usually looks like an 'e' anyway and the way the 'O' is on this as usually it loops through the J but I have seen numerous Upper Deck one exactly like this.
This has been authenticated by PSA, now how did they say mine in 'likely not genuine', this is a terrible auto. I now believe that PSA is just another money grabber like Global and is on a direct route to the same position global found themselves in. I think there strategy is to make you pay for a quick opinion and then they give you a likely not genuine in hopes you will send it in for the full service so it can be examined closely and apparently properly and to charge to again.
A "Quick Opinion" is just that, a "quick opinion", it would be nice if they would take 30 seconds to reply what they noticed wrong with it. However, as I said before, I would much rather them side with caution and give a "Likely Not Genuine" to an authentic item as opposed to giving a "Likely Authentic" to a fake item.
Ultimately I value my own eyes, and the opinions of others on here more than I do PSA/DNA or JSA, which is why I have never paid a dime for a "quick opinion" or to get something certed.
This PSA/DNA slabbed Jordan auto above is authentic IMO... Albeit incredibly sloppy.
