My 91 year old Father's Political/Space/Military/Press Autograph Collection

My Dad was a many of many interests. His father ran for State Senate in New Jersey in the 1940's, which started a following of Political matters. He was class of 1949 at West Point, which expanded his Military research. After watching the nightly news with Chet Huntley, or reading a newspaper column, he would frequently retire to his office, where the banging of typewriter keys could be heard. He kept carbon copies (remember those) of many of his letters, and some were attached to the replies he received. My favorite one was the reply from JFK, whose 1st sentence started: "I am in receipt of your rather aggressively worded letter ......"! That letter was signed Jack Kennedy.

He was also an avid supporter of the Space Program in the 1960's, and there are several autographs from Gordon Cooper, James McDivitt, Buzz Aldrin and Edward White.

My hope would be to sell individual pieces within the collection, as I would imagine that would be the best way to realize the most profit to go towards his care.

I can say with a certainty 99% that the signature of Lyndon B. Johnson is a secretarial. About others I can't say...

Wanted to provide an update on the autographed letters belonging to my Dad (who will be 92 on Friday!).

The JFK and Nixon signatures are no longer available. The President Harding signed photo has also been sold.

There are two Douglas MacArthur autographs .... one on a letter to my Dad, and the other a short reply on the letter that my Dad sent to him at the Waldorf Astoria when he was in NYC in 1954. My Dad asked if the General would autograph his book as a gift for my grandfather, and in return my father would be happy to make a donation to the charity of his choice. Gen MacArthur wrote on the original letter "Happy to sign the book - No charity involved' and signed under that 'Doug MacA'. Would this be a more valuable letter due to the personal note inscribed...?
