Hello everybody!  I came across this autographed Bleach CD cover about 15 years ago.  I purchased the CD from a used CD/Record store in the Uptown area of Minneapolis, not knowing about the treat waiting inside.  Now that "Kurdt's" 20 year death anniversary is coming up, I figured I should try to find out if it's the real thing.

I've done some online research and it seems that Nirvana autographs are some of the toughest to authenticate because of their variations and simplicity.

Nirvana was at First Avenue in Minneapolis in 1991, and Dave Grohl was touring with the band at that time.  "Kurdt" and "Dave" appear to be written with a Sharpie, and "Chris" is written with a ball-point pen.

Can anybody help me figure out if this is worth further investigation?  From what I understand, Nirvana autographs are worth quite a bit if you can prove that it's real.  Please feel free to ask any questions that you think are necessary.  I can take photos with a higher quality camera as well, if that will help the process.  Thank you!

Hi Shane!!

From what I know while researching Nirvana Bleach signed CD or LP covers Dave Grohl would signed CHAD on the covers if he was asked to signed as he did not play on the Bleach recording. Here is an example of an authentic Bleach LP signed at a instore signing in Texas. Dave Grohl signed CHAD. Chad Channing always signed with a Z-Sun below his signature. Is the Bleach CD cover from the 1st Pressing or is it from the digital remastered pressing??

Here is an early Bleached CD Cover signed at The 930 Club in Washington DC on April 29, 1990.

Thanks for your help, J!  I read that about Dave signing as Chad in your awesome post.  But, isn't it plausible that Dave missed the fact that he was signing a Bleach CD since it's on the back photo?  Also, Dave's autograph is covering Kurt's face in the photo, so it looks to me like he wasn't really paying attention to what or where he was signing.

So, if it is actually Dave's signature, would that make it more rare since it's known that he wouldn't sign as himself on Bleach?

As far as the pressing, I'll have to take a look when I get home tonight.  Does anything else stand out to you?

Not likely since Chad is pictured in the photo behind Kurt. I have no opinion as to authenticity.

The album appears to be from the first pressing, here's a pic of the front:

Nevermind, smaller and white means 2nd pressing, right?

IMO no good

Hi Shane,

In my opinion i dont think this autograph is authentic either. The Kurt looks wrong to me, and as J said, Dave signed Chad on this album, and was pretty religious in doing so. One could always slip by him, but ignoring the Chad part, the signatures dont look right to me.

Thanks for the replies, everybody.  The most convincing part for me (besides the potential price tag) is the 2-stroke "K" in Kurdt, very similar to authentic autographs of his, the "d" and low-crossed "t" at the end of the name, and the variation in pen-pressure between Kurdt and Dave.

I dont think this is real, the kurdt doesnt look right, and the chris is not right as well.
I have been in the hunt for an autographed Bleach cd for my wife for sometime. Looking for a copy with Dave Grohl, this is so informative about CHAD. Does anyone know how I could find this?
