Just saw this being offer on the bay! Not even close.
Here is the seller provenance:
I live in Seattle and was very involved in the music scene for many years and this period was right in the middle of it. I was living with Kurt Bloch at the time who you may or may not know of but if you're up on the Seattle music scene then or now you probably do. A good friend of mine was the local Geffen rep and knew the band well. The drum head came from an after show meet and greet where the band was signing things. This was to go to someone in the industry who left without knowing it so I was asked if I wanted it and said "sure". It actually sat in my closet for years because at the time I didn't care much about it. We saw Nirvana a lot back then so it was taken for granted. Years later I found it and thought I would frame it and sell it. I went overboard on the frame job and dug it too much to let it go, so it hung in my living room for many years. It is now on display at HangFire, the framing and design business that I own. There is no certificate of authenticity as there was no need for one. I understand poeople wanting documentation for expensive collectable things but it seems to me that it would be a lot easier to make up a bogus certificate of authenticity than it would be to forge the band members signatures. In my business I see certificates all the time most of which don't prove anything.
I say the drum head was Dave Grohl's because it came from him after a show. I know none of us brought a drum head. We needed them for our band (Food Giant).
I hope this helps. I know there are "experts" that will authenticate things for a price. I thought about it but I would have to take apart the piece, remove the drum head and ship it off to a so called expert who would charge me a good deal of money to tell me something I know better than he. I was there. I should have had the band sign an authenticity certificate. That would have been really funny and I can only imagine the signatures a request like that would have garnered.
