Hi All!

My first time posting and I could use some help. I was looking at this auto ball on ebay of Johnson. I like the perfect game engravings on it. So, I asked the seller to send me the actual numbers off the MLB sticker, because I couldn't make them out in the pic with the auction. He does, and I punch it in to the MLB database, and it says this:

Session Name: RANDY JOHNSON PRIVATE SIGNING
Session Date: April 18, 2003
Autographer: RANDY JOHNSON
Authenticator: AUTHENTICATORS, INC

So, as we all know his perfect game wasn't until May 18, 2004. So, I'm wondering did he sign it in 03 and they (Mounted Memories) engraved it later to increase the sell price? And, if so, is that common practice? I mean it looks good to me, and compares to my signed Fleer card, and others I looked at, so I think it's legit. Not to mention the MM and MLB holograms. I would think it would be hard to engrave AFTER he signed it without messing it up, if you know what I mean? Any answers you guys could help with would be greatly appreciated. I'm guessing it's just "what they do" to increase the value of an item, but it still has me wondering. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251896705340?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&a...

This is the link to it above.

Also, thanks for the site! It's great. I am learning more and more on here than I ever did on my own.

Thanks again,

Jon S.

MVP Sports Marketing and Icon Sports Marketing has been buying regular signed baseballs and then engraving them themselves. They go for a pretty penny on ebay once engraved. I'm surprised people pay so much for them.

No kidding, I really had no idea. Thanks for the reply. I just always thought that the company (say MM, Steiner, etc) just engraved some balls, maybe different versions, and then had them signed by the athlete. I keep learning new stuff all the time.

I have a engraver at work, I have a few Side Panels I may do this to
