An Ora of suspicion |
A few years back, there was a rumour going around the music/media industry that Rita Ora’s sister would occasionally help to lighten Rita’s workload by posing as her for the odd phone interview. Now it seems the rumour is broadening. Rita played a show at Pryzm late last month, where fans had the option to buy pre-signed, personalised copies of her new album. It’s a neat way of shifting a few extra units, but fans have since noticed that the handwriting and signatures on the albums they received bear very little resemblance to the other albums they’ve had signed by Rita at in-person events. In fact, they look like they’ve been signed by someone else completely. For the last few weeks, fans have been trying to get some sort of concrete proof from the vendors and/or Rita’s team that their albums were actually signed by Rita and not an intern. As yet, nothing. |
Such weird diva behavior from someone not nearly as big as she seems to think she is. Plenty of other artists with less time on their hands find time to fulfill their obligations. Her deal is pure ego.
I'm not mad but really don't feel great about the way Banquet's been handling this so far, but I still hope they could possibly be sorting this out - at least I hope so. I understand being caught between a rock and a hard place, but taking no action sure as hell isn't doing the right thing. It probably comes down to p****** off an artist they hosted and likely want to continue to work with in the future or leaving fans in the know hanging with a bad product. Unfortunately, that's just not a good look for a company who otherwise has a pretty solid reputation.
In a situation where inserts, art cards, etc were involved, this would probably even be somewhat less offensive. But I have a vinyl record cover that was literally defaced by either her sister or some other ghost signer on her team. That's technically a damaged item. Really, the right thing to do would be to pursue Ora and her team. If I was running that business, I certainly wouldn't have any interest in dealing with her shenanigans on any level anyway.
