Its very hard to tell with a thick marker like this, but if it were for sale, I personally would not buy it.

I was given this item by a family member who said they had no idea if this was real or not. The reason I put it on here was to see if it was worth the trouble of taking it somewhere to try and authenticate it. I did a little research and found similar pictures of RR and Orrin Hatch, however none of the pictures available matched this one. All opinons are welcome and greatly appreciated. Thanks

Michael,

I am attaching a copy of an authentic Reagan signature from the early 80's.  Many forgers use heavy marker because it is difficult to really see the letter formation.  I do not like the slant of some of the letters in the signature you are referencing.  But compare to the one I am presenting and it may help you decide. I personally do not like the signature above.

one clarification: that signature is on a GOP napkin from the '84 campaign.

Michael....

After a careful examination of the jpg. you included in the post,

I have found indications that this is indeed a traced forgery.

This could of been an autopen signature, that was then traced with heavy black marker,

to hide the telltale signs of a Reagan autopen pattern.

When I looked at it I did notice a very small red line on the first R but wasnt sure what it was. At least I didnt buy it from someone. If anyone is interested I also have a Hank Aaron signature that I got at the same time and I have had opinions both ways. Thanks
