One of my favorite hobbies is collecting autographs.  I have purchased autographs from numerous auction houses and I can say without hesitation that RR Auction leads the pack for many reasons.  Those reasons include their tremendous expertise in the field and their great staff.  I have dealt extensively with Bobby Livingston and Tricia Eaton-both are leaders in the autograph field.  Whether purchasing autographs or consigning autographs I have never had a bad experience.  I recommend RR Auction wholeheartedly.

There stuff is waaaaay to expensive. Minimum bids of$100 for album signed by 3 members of Kansas.

Or, an electric guitar I got or $200 (plus shipping, 20% on top of, etc), only to find out that it wasn't the original line up of ASIA.  LAME!

And...a handful of times stuff I bough turned ot to be unathentic (Rolling Stones signed CD, to name one of many). They refunded, which is great....but still....

REAL stuff is expensive Josh.  It's time for everyone to realize this.  Most of the stuff is very hard to come by and they offer some of the cream of the crop items in their auctions.  Quality does not come cheap.  As far as the Asia item goes, how could that be their fault?  Their descriptions are the most detailed in the business.  Now if it was written up wrong then you have something to complain about but if not you didn't read the description very well.  Trust me I have done this many times and kicked myself when I got the item and missed the part that it was laminated or find out it wasn't the signed program it was the cover only.  These were my fault and I take full responsibility for that, not blame the auction house.  Shipping is expensive too, they pack their items perfectly to insure that the customer receives it in the condition they expected.  Heritage also does a fantastic job in their shipping dept.  And postage is not controlled by them, that is UPS, FedEX or USPS.

I want to thank Josh for posting his valid concerns about RR Auction.

In the ten years Josh has been our client, we have made many changes in our monthly auctions. Several years ago, it was determined to only accept items that would warrant a $100 minimum bid. We sell over 80% of everything we list at $100 each month, so the market says we are estimating the value of items correctly.

One other big change was the introduction of unbiased, third party authenticators which has significantly improved our ability to offer genuine items to Josh and thousands of other clients. And as Josh attests, we stand behind everything we sell.

Josh

Just for my own records, since I have been authenticating for RR Auction myself how many items have you had to return for a refund that had my LOA REAL attached to it?

Adam, thank you for posting. We enjoy your business but we enjoy your passion for collecting autographs even more.

I agree with Josh on the minimums as a number of items are priced way too high.  I understand Bobby's logic as it is what the market will bear and they have their overhead %'s to consider.  The other part of it is the "refunds" when there are some   Have they made mistakes - they all do and bobby is the first to research and remedy it when it comes to his attention.

many things have changed and it appears for the most part the better.  I still have agita with certain exemplars and in time that too will be remedied, I suspect.   Oh, and this is not coming from someone who simply embraced R&R Auction to start with...as they had many early issues from trusthing "would be experts" and their consignments.

Let's hope that they can maintain an outstanding track record while remeding the issues that have been uncovered.

To me, it's important and gratifying to see that RR takes steps to better itself and protect it's customers whenever the need arises.  As far as prices, GOD BLESS CAPITALISM!! If someone is willing to pay the price, then more power to RR and the buyer.

Do you see many other auction companies step out and make the changes that RR has made at times when the need arises?

Could they do things better in some areas? SURE!! So could every dealer, expert, seller, and buyer.

A lot of their items do get top dollar. Surprisingly so sometimes. The authenticity of their items is almost always top-notch, especially compared to the competition. I don't have any qualms about the prices because I don't buy them. Some do and they're entitled to pay those prices just as well as RR to sell at those prices.

A lot of people who post here are usually knowledgeable enough in the autographs they want to judge authenticity themselves and not rely on a place like RR which utilizes so many means of testing authenticity and then stands by its return policy. It's a question of what people want. Considering how well RR does, I think a lot of people have answered that question in their favor.
