I posted this Scarlett Johansson poster here before - over a year ago, but I didn't get alot of feedback so I figured I would post this again.  I would appreciate any opinions and I thank you.

For comparisons sake - Below are some examples of Scarlett Johansson autographs that I have on other items.  This signed 7 inch vinyl with Pete Yorn is from a Record Store Day promo from the record label -

This signed CD with Pete Yorn was purchased from Newbury Comics.  They sell autographed CDs weekly on their website www.newburycomics.com

This cast signed playbill came directly through the mail from the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City.  Scarlett's autograph is the bottom left corner

Here's a closer look at it

Thanks again for any opinions you can provide on the poster (and any of the other items I included - although I'm pretty confident they are authentic - It's the poster I'm not 100% sure about)

Hi Geoff,

Although i could be wrong, i am pretty sure that the Scarlett Autographs on the CDs from newberry comics are fakes. I dont know Scarlett really at all, but i do know Newberry well. I order from them very frequently and have in the past as well. I remember seeing these Peter Yorn CDs when they came out, and probably are still up for purchase.

When i saw that they were signed by Scarlett when I heard the news that they were up for sale, i quickly decided to buy a few to resale. But when i clicked the item i found out that Scarlett did not sign the CDs. It was only signed by Peter. Im pretty sure they still have them for sale, and if you read the fine print above the offer, it states that Scarlett did not sign them.

Now it was probably a week late after the CDs first hit that i saw the offer on Newberry, so it is technically possible that they sold out of some that were signed by both artists, but i am fairly confident that didnt happen. The way Newberry does business as long as i have bought from them (years), is that they get the artist to sign, they then calculate how many signed items they have, and then when they sell out of the promotion then they update their site. IN my experience with them, not once have i ever seen a promotion where 2 artists signed an item, then sold out, and then reposted the same item only signed by one artist. Which is what would have had to have happened if Scarlett signed any of these. And i dont believe that happened.

I think what has happened here, is that someone bought the Peter Yorn CD, put the scarlett sig on it, and then used the line about newberry to draw people in. Newberry still has that offer up for the Peter CD i believe, but Scarlett is not part of it, nor was she ever in my opinion. I feel sure i would have heard about it, and the CDs would have sold out incredibly fast and that would have been that. I think the odds that Peter then shipped over some solo signed CDs that are still up on the site for sale are very very low. I have never seen newberry do anything like that, and i think if you contact them they probably will also tell you they never sold Scarlett autographs.

Now i could be wrong here, but speaking from my experience with the company, and having looked into the offer myself, i think someone forged a scarlett on the CD with Peter to make a buck.

Hope this helps

Carl

Hi Carl - thanks alot for the comment on the Pete Yorn CD.  You are 100% correct that they are still selling the CD with ONLY Pete Yorn.  However, I purchased this CD from ebay from Newberry Comics ebay store.  It was a buy it now auction that I believe I paid $69.99 for.  (I'd have to go back and look).  I'm guessing they never sold them like that on their website but must have had a few in their possession that had both Scarlett and Yorn and decided to sell it on ebay.  I would hope they wouldn't be selling me a forgery as it came from their ebay store.

I remember the signed covers on Newberry site. I called the store about it back then. They said they offered signed CD covers of both but had only about a hundred. After they sold out they listed more that they had with just Pete Yorn. Whether that really happened or not who knows. I buy from them and have been satisfied with everything I've bought.

I still think both CD covers are authentic.

Yep, I buy from Newbury Comics all the time and I think they have a great reputation.  If you check early and often on their website, there are some great items to be found (before they sell out) and at very reasonable prices (not much more than the retail price of the CD unsigned).

Getting back to my signed poster/photo for a moment - I will say if it is fake - it's a very good one.  Signature looks very similar to the style on the Yorn CD, especially the last name.  The end of Scarlett looks a little shakey to me and the angle of the slant is more extreme than most of her other examples.  If somebody faked it, they did their homework - as you pointed out before, the majority of her stuff on ebay is obvious forgeries that look NOTHING CLOSE to these examples.  Even the JSA authenticated stuff and some of the PSA/DNA ones.  It's almost all bad.

Your right. Some of these authenticators moved outside their areas of expertise and are passing some awful stuff. All of them are doing it. PSA, JSA and Global. Some items they are no better at authenticating then we are.

very very intersting. I have never heard of newberry doing this. I am shocked they went that route. But i do trust them, and if they offered it, then i have no argument their, as i stated i dont know her at all.

Wow, i still cant believe newberry did 2 seperate orders like that. Thats really cool but very unique. You got a heck of a deal, and thats awesome its real. Coingrats

I got her a couple times in NYC. She is very tough. I've looked at a lot of her sigs though.

I think all the sigs you posted are authentic except for the poster.  I don't think its good. It is an obvious attempt to slant the signature like she does but does not look natural to me. Signatures just like it can be found on EBAY. Last time I looked I think there were only 5 or 6 I thought were authentic. 60 or 70 obvious forgeries. Many horrible sigs even had 3rd party authentication. I posted about those before.

I appreciate the opinion Rick - I think you very well might be right.  (and just for clarification - I called it a poster, but it's actually more accurately an 11x14 photo)

Here are some authentic in-person examples of her. Feel free to compare and you will quickly determine which of your items are authentic. She is a nightmare to obtain (a complete c*nt actually). As of late she was signing Playbills in NYC but refusing anything else:

Thanks for these examples - i keep going back and forth on if there's a possibility the picture I posted on top could be a slightly varied authentic or if it's just a fake copying her style.  I don't really see hints of stop and slowing down - it looks like a fluid motion.  But the S is what's throwing me off as it seems like the very top the angle of it is too rounded compared to these examples but when I start to tilt my head to the right, I see it looks better.

Since I don't know for sure, and I didn't get it myself, and it didn't come from a respected autograph supplier like Newbury Comics (for the record, it came from user OCSportscards from ebay that runs a baseball card shop in Anaheim) then I guess i'll assume it's not authentic.  The guy that runs the shop, Brian Nicalek - he sent me an email claiming she signed the picture during promotion for Iron Man 2.

I'm going to post a few more examples I found online that I believe are authentic but they have slight variations from these other examples - In these 2, the 'C' in her first name on the first example is larger than usual, and on the example next to it, the last name has less letters and is more of an up and down angle - but I think both are real rushed examples from the hollywood walk of fame she did.

If you look at alot of autographed playbills that she signed really quickly at the stage door after shows, you can see they are not nearly as nice looking - The S looks sloppy and large, and the whole first name looks too stretched out or long - but that being said, I think this is a real example from the broadway show A View From The Bridge -

I guess the point i'm trying to make is - for every good example I see of her auto, I always find sloppy ones that look off compared to other known authentic examples.
