I have learned a lot since I have been on this site, about in person vs. Steiner signatures, etc.  but can someone explain to me how this signature can be authenticated?

The Ted is fairly smooth and consistent, but what happened with the Williams? I know this is one of those "bless all" authentications and it may not even apply to this specific ball, but has anyone ever seen a Williams like this? I know he had a couple of strokes, but man, this one is strange.

Hahaha yeah, it is strange.  I've purchased from Presspass multiple times, very nice pieces they have, most of which are in persons.  My best bet is that this was signed while Ted was on the move.  The upward motions are all shaky and some of the ink smudged while his hand was on the ball slightly.  Still has the characteristics of a Ted, and the price isn't too bad either.

I agree PP has always had good stuff.  and the ball could very well be real, I mean, no one would forge something this badly!  the price is good but who would want it??  LOL

actually there are some really great williams balls on ebay now, and the pricing is still pretty reasonable (under 300).

I still can't fully understand how some of these very non typical signatures can truly be authenticated, though.

I wouldn't touch that Williams with a ten foot pole....that is the worst Williams I have ever seen....it looks like he was doing 100 miles an hour driving down Yawkey Way driving with one hand while leaning the ball on the stearing wheel signing this with his foot...LOL...this is so bad...I didn't see any photo of he cert either...don't know if my phone was unable to pull it up but I think judging by the TED portion it may be a drunk or walking freebee...I honestly don't even think I would want to display this with my stuff even for free...if it was authenticated it should have been turned away just for the simple fact that this does NOT look like authentic examples AND this wouldn't be desired by any Redsox or baseball fan in my opinion...should be a sale of starting bid of $50 and see where it lands...

CEE, you hit it right on the head.  how can it be authenticated...against what?  but like I said its so bad, its probably good, but is that enough?
