Hello everyone,
I often search for Prince autographs on ebay in my never ending search for an authentic example at a reasonable price, and so see alot of garbage. Currently on ebay i dont think their is one authentic example, and their hasnt been for quite a long time. Their are a handful of Prince items up, but the ones that i have seen are all forgeries.
I have studied Prince so much looking for a good piece, that i feel pretty confident when looking at forgeries. So i was in no surprise when i found these jewels.
The first is just a nasty attempt in my opinion. The seller claims these came from a well known DJ and that the record and jacket were signed, and he is keeping the jacket. But of course he will send pictures of it if requested. But their really is no need. In my opinion this piece is a very bad forgery. It really doesnt compare at all with authentic examples. What do you think?

And next is an equally bad Prince double autographed piece. Not only is the LP autographed, but also the backstage pass. These autos really dont have any of the characteristics of a genuine Prince in my opinion. Prince's autograph did vary slightly, and their was a time when his signature was more compact, but never anything like this example. Notice how pointy the letters are and how scrunched together. Prince just didn't sign like that. Not to mention that i have no idea what is going on with that P. It just looks like a blob. Then their is the heart underneath. I have never seen Prince do that, but it wouldnt surprise me. Another slight red flag is that this LP was singed in 86 supposedly, which is in the time frame when Prince autographed most everything with "Love God". And although its absence doesnt mean an autograph is fake by itself, it is not the norm. But it doesnt matter in this case, the autograph is just all wrong in my opinion. What do you think?

And most of us know this already, but backstage passes mean absolutely nothing the majority of the time. They are as worthless as the majority of "proof photos". The backstage pass seems to be the confidence booster on the 2nd Prince item. But think about it. Why would Prince sign that in the middle. Typically their is writing their from the venue itself. Typically the date and something else, marked and managed by the staff. I cant imagine Prince signing that pass in that manner, it just doesnt add up.
OH yeah, and then their is this. Just a quick ebay search and you can buy all the blank backstage passes from this tour that you want, pick your poison:

For 10 dollars, you have a confidence booster, than could potentially double or triple your money on a bad forgery sold to an unsuspecting and inexperienced buyer.
For those that go to concerts and have had special passes, they know how they typically are marked up by the venue by the end of the night. This is how a used backstage pass tends to look by the end of the night.
