Thomas Edison - Is there enough here to authenticate and whom should it be?

Capture_00057.JPGI have an early piece, which would have been used in the early days of silent film production.  It is, what amounts to, what we might call an "Oscillo-graph" which recorded wave forms onto film.  (See Photos).  Now, there are no visible manufacturing marks or patent marks whatsoever, except for a lone letter "E" scribed in pencil on the inside of the access door(See photo).  Now knowing only a small amount regarding early film history, my initial reaction was that it had to be Edison.  Upon looking at some of hi signatures, I was not convinced and moved on, however upon pulling up a few of Edison's patent drawings, they have very similar characteristics.  Add to this the fact that Edison had three or four varying sinatures or marks and it becomes conceivable that this is a device that may have been used in his film production studio.  It is possible that William Dickson created the device for use and Edison, put his approval mark on the door.

Anyway, folks, what I'm wondering, if there is enough of a mark here to have it authenticated and if so, whom would be the most qualified on Edison signatory marks?

Opinions, advice, comments?  All welcome.

In the interim, I am searching for a picture or reference to this device in the Edison Papers and Wilkonson's Notes and papers as well.

The device has also been described as a scientific instrument to record continuous wave
forms from a light valve,   a galvanometer  or monometric flame apparatus. Or, a recording Osllograph.

P.S. If anyone would like a copy of a PDF, which contains more than a hundred photos of the device, just send me a note with your email and I will forward it along.

Thanks William, Yea, It took me a minimum of 160 hours every year for five years to find someone to identify it's purpose.  I wrote everybody, every organization, museum, collector, collector club and finally last year, I found a guy in Australia, who found someone who worked out in his brain, what it was.   ...phew!  It operates by attaching a pulley to the flywheel.  There are different size wheels to adjust the speed and an old time push brake.  It's pretty cool, Now to find Who made it?  Thanks for responding.

Rich

I knew there were probably inventions of his that were not patented, but I did not think that there were that many.  Yikes!
