Terrier and anyone else who has an opinion,

What are your thoughts on this 1979 Topps signed Thurman Munson.    This one last sold at Heritage Auctions in August 2009 for $1600 or so.   Personally, I don't like it.

The only definitely real 1979 Thurman Munson that I've ever seen was from a Mastro auction in April 2001, where someone snagged an incredible deal (even at that time), where they got this real one, pictured below, for $928!

I've heard of a handful of others that are in existence, but again, this is the only real one I've ever seen.   Anyone else ever seen any real 1979 signed Topps Munsons besides this one?

David,

I was just talking about this card a couple days ago on here.    This is a forgery, one that if I recall correctly, someone spent $17,000 on!

thanks for pointing that out, i missed the earlier discussion

Here is an example on a baseball

Dom, do you own this ball?

Dom,

This is a really bad forgery.

yes it is. thats why I was asking if it was his.

No, Lee Trythall currently is offering it. Personally, I wouldn't touch it

Yeah, he rarely has stuff that is authentic.   I do remember once, though, looking at his auctions and a real Munson did slip into one of his auctions.   It doesn't happen often, though.

Was it earlier this year? I saw a side panel Munson that looked pretty good. It had residue or some gunk on it though. Not sure.

The item I saw was a signed index card if I believe.  It was a number of years back.  There may have been more recent Munson stuff on there that is also real, like the Munson ball that you allude to.   I haven't looked at one of their auctions in years.

I would not rule out the card in the post.  the signature is smudged so it is difficult to be certain.
