Yes, As I understand it my father got it personally in 1978, I know he was at many of the west coast games that year and went to the world series in NY, and I know he would wait outside the stadium after the games to get auto's but I couldn't tell you at which game he got this, as both fellows are dead, even though I recall him telling me he got it, when I was about 10 yrs, but of course I was not there to personally witness it. Is there anything that you or anyone else sees that is a clear trademark of known forgeries?
that is an authentic Munson signature. 78 would be the proper time frame
I strongly believe so also, especially knowing the history as I do, but PSA/DNA just turned it down.(after scalping me for $180.00) So now I don't know what to do? I've had another long time collector tell me that especially since it is somewhat light and is in ball point ink, that PSA is very likely not to authenticate it, But what do you do when they turn it down and you KNOW it's legit?
Unfortunately, it will be very difficult to sell without a legitimate 3rd party LOA and especially with the item already being rejected by one of the better ones.
It certainly could be authentic but it is pretty sloppy and we are judging it from a picture and PSA/DNA would have had it in hand to examine if they rejected it. You could try JSA but that would cost another $100 and the result could be the same.
You might try consigning it to a major auction house that uses JSA for authentication. If it passes, it is probably worth at least a grand so it may be worth a shot. However, they may still charge a fee if it does not pass but it would not be the normal $100 fee.
However, based on the picture of the autograph, I don't think it will pass.
Again, I am not saying it is not authentic and if you know for certain your dad got it signed then you know it is real but it still does not mean you can sell it for market value.
Personally, I would keep it as a nice memory of my father and not worry about what 3rd party authenticator's opinions are. Frame it up with a nice picture of Munson and display it proudly.
Thanks,I'm starting to understand how this bis. works, and it's a little frustrating and eye opening, I definitely won't just let it go, as I am that confident of it's authenticity, but unfortunately selling it for top dollar would make it one of the best memories I would've ever had of my father.
Haha!!!!!!!!!! First of all, Adrienne made the demand at her own discretion. And second of all, if she gets her paws on this card, she's not submitting it to this forum's Foolish raffle, but will instead offer up a signed Celerino Sanchez card in Mint condition. Seems like a fair trade to me.
Haha, wouldn't that be valuable!
I apologize, Sir. Where I come from, dibs is dibs. I should have read the bylaws before joining the forum. Any way, the winner of last year's Easter raffle should know that that's a phony! The slant and loops are all wrong.
Bwahaaahahahhahhaha! No way I can keep up with you. Good one!
Although that photo on ebay isn't very clear, from what I can see it is VERY similar. Now there's a twist in this saga, PSA shows my insured card shipped as of 11/13/13 but it has not arrived back to me now ten days later. If I ever get it back the idea is to get it sold.
Nope, on my account, it shows the order & submission #'s and just says it was shipped on 11/13. Nothing else.
There is a problem if that is the case because they use USPS Priority Mail and there is no way it would take 10 days to get anywhere in the US. I would contact them and get a tracking #.
They also require a signature for delivery. It is possible you were not home to sign but the mailman should have left a notice to pick the item up at your local post office. You might check there first to make sure they are not holding it for you.
