Can anyone verify what I am seeing? I was looking at some Michael Jordan signed baseballs.
However, when I find UDA Jordan baseballs, they are ALL on Wilson Official League Baseballs?
Can anyone verify that this is in fact what they used and why this is the case?
How does this effect value or does it due to the unique nature of this item?
Thanks

wilson was a sponsor I believe of Jordan at the time
Yes, UD uses Wilson baseballs, one of the dumbest sports autograph moves of all time. Yes, they are much cheaper than OML baseballs. You can find the wilson ones on eBay for $3-400, but I have been looking for months for either a sub $300 Wilson ball or a $4-500 OMLB ball. Hard to find, a lot of fakes out there. Be careful.
With it being a Jordan baseball and being Upper Deck, should one care or should the market care that the ball is a cheap Wilson since Upper Deck used it? Jordan is contracted through upper deck which means its the real deal and should bring a premium.
Or is it more worth it to get a OMLB with a PSA/DNA or JSA opinion certification??
Thats a tough call in my book
Regardless of who grants authentication of the ball/signature, the item being purchased is still essentially a signature. If Upper Deck chose to use poor quality balls for their UDA baseball signatures, I don't think they should be given a free pass. Yes, UDA authentication is better than most, but I would still prefer a clean signature on a ball that won't fade/bleed over a signature that is almost guaranteed to fade/bleed that is authenticated by UDA.
Agreed. A Mantle little league ball is worth a maybe couple hundred. A nice Mantle OML baseball is worth double. Same is true for about any signature on a baseball that is from the more modern era. I especially dislike the balls signed on the sweet spot with the word "China" stamped either above or below it. Yuck!
I would pay at least 50% more for a Jordan OML ball over a wilson, regardless of the authentication company if I believe it to be authentic. Having JSA/PSA/UDA is only beneficial to a seller as the value typically increases. That said, I do get most of my items I don't get signed in person authenticated, in case I do choose to sell or something happens to me. Although, i am becoming increasingly worried that there is going to be a very bad story released about one of the major TPA and the LOA's become worthless. If a major network show (Dateline, ESPN 30 for 30, 60 Minutes, etc) does an expose and intentionally tries to trick the authenticators, I guarantee they would find some dirt and freak the average consumer out.
