I am somewhat happy to say that I have only ever purchased a few GAI certified items, all of which I bought at least 4-5 years ago. Since the news broke that they were certifying a lot of forgeries, I have stayed far away from those items. That said, this is the last GAI certified item I have in my possession (I destroyed the others). I cannot say 100% that this is fake or authentic. Can you guys help me out? Either way, I would rather know for sure, and, if it is fake, put it on the BBQ.

Thanks guys,

Pete

Any Walter Payton experts out there who can help me out?

Thanks,

Pete

Pete,

My friend, if this was a Packers autograph, I would tell you to throw it away.  Da Bears!  Seriously though, I would not get rid of this one. I believe that this is the real thing.  I have been collecting Walter Payton memorabilia since I was a child.  I have 3 of his autographs in my collection.  I have one that he sent me in the late '70s and 2 from his company Walter Payton Inc. that I got shortly after his passing.  This looks like those.  This would be worth getting looked at and authenticated by a professional.

Hey Tony - If you ever have an Packers autographs you don't want, feel free to send them this way ;)

Thanks a lot, Tony.

Take care,

Pete

Tony,

I would really appreciate it if you could express an opinion on the validity of my Walter Payton autograph. I possess no proof of authenticity as my dad passed it down to me over 20 years ago. I have no intention to sell but would like to know if its fake as it is hands down my favorite autograph.

Although I am not an expert, I would have to say this is the real thing.  It looks great!  Do you have any information on this or did your dad tell you where/how he got this?  I live in the Chicagoland area and went to the Sun-Times Sports Memorabilia Convention about two weeks ago.  They have several Payton items there that are to die for.  The next one will be in late November.  There are authenticators there such as Spence and PSA/DNA etc. that will authenticate your items, for a fee of course.  There are also famous athletes there that will sign your items.  Many of the famous Bears were there too such as Butkus, Sayers, Ditka, Urlacher, Hampton, Fridge, and others.  It's a great time.  In fact, I have met and got signatures from 20 of the '85 Bears players since Jan. 2012.  They've all been really personable also.  If you need more help on this, I could give you a name of a place that would know for sure.  But I don't think you have anything to worry about.

What do you think about this one?  I'm thinking about buying for my husband but I don't want to get hosed!  Any help would be appreciated!
