I am open for opinions...as long as they verify this isn't fake of course...since that would suck.

Hi, Robert.

This signature looks authentic. I have many Gretzky authentic autographs, including a signed jersey from Gretzky's own company (WGA). I would say your item is 100% authentic.

Hope this helps,

Pete

Thanks Pete, I was looking for feedback from others that have his as well..

I hear what you are saying, Harry, but this looks to be authentic, no matter who it is certified by. Remember that the signature is on a number patch, which is a material which is somewhat difficult to write on (hence the "dot" you mentioned). Based on the Gretzky autographs I have in my collection, and authentic signed jerseys I have seen over the last 10+ years, I still say this looks authentic.

yep...I have gotten fairly ripped on here with the stuff I picked up at this auction. I am not 100% on anything...hell I thought the Mays ball was a shoe in and someone told me to feed it to my dog...

they had another sale on Monday with more stuff that I posted a link to...some of the stuff they sold appears to be ok(signed checks etc) ...and one of the jerseys was a Robert Person...who the hell would forge a Robert Person?

Harry check out the album I have of stuff I am "sure" of ...all "real stuff" there...but that is why I am asking for opinions on the others.

I agree that the "G" is somewhat atypical, and I shouldn't have used the expression "100% authentic", as this, and other Gretzky-signed item, should be carefully examined by a Gretzky expert before that statement is made. There are a few "tells" in this signature that give me the confidence I mentioned, especially the ending of "Gretzky" and the number "99". They show specific characteristics of legitimate Gretzky signatures that are not usually present in fakes. I will say the "W" in "Wayne", upon further review, is a variation of his normal "W", but this version is also found on authentic items.

I would enjoy a conversation with Wayne...I met his dad a few years ago and he is a great and humble guy, just like his son appears to be.

A big problem with Wayne's signature is that it varies quite a bit between items he has been paid to sign and items he signs on the fly. I guess this is true with all celebrities.

BEEN COLLECTING  SIGNED VINTAGE HOCKEY MEMORABILIA FOR 25 YEARS OR SO ... hAVE A PRETTY LARGE GRETZKY COLLECION GOING BACK TO EALY 80'S , WOULD CONSIDER MYSELF A GRETZKY EXPERT, VERY FAMILIAR WITH ALL HIS DIFFERENT SIGNATURES OVER THE YEARS... ALL THAT TO SAY THAT IN MY OPINION I WOULD HAVE NOT PURCHASED THIS , THE SIGNATURE HAS A FEW ISSUES THREE LETTERS IN PARTICULAR 1) THE W IS A LITTLE OFF  2) The E THE WAY IT TRAILS OFF (SEEMS RIGID) 3) THE G AS STATED BELOW (NOT FLOWING) ... THE REST LOOKS GOOD . OF ALL THE HOCKEY GREATS GRETZKY'S SIGNATURE HAS BEEN THE MOST FAKED OVER THE YEARS , I HAVE SEEN THOUSANDS AND MOST ARE EASY TO SPOT  OBVIOUS FAKES ,THIS ONE IS DONE PRETTY WELL AND COULD BE REAL , JUST SAYING IN MY OPINION IT LEANS MORE TOWARDS BEING A GOOD FAKE .

any thoughts on this one DAn

I HAVE SEEN SIMILAR SIGNATURES BY WAYNE WHERE HE SIGNED IN A HURRIED MANNER USUALLY WITH A CROWD OF AUTOGRAPH HOUNDS AROUND HIM. IN MY OPINION IT IS REALLY HARD IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO AUTHENTICATE THESE TYPE OF GRETZKY AUTOS , WHERE HE OBVIOUSLY SIGNED IN A HURRIED MANNER.  THE AREAS THAT LOOK A LITTLE OFF ARE THE BEGINNING OF THE G , RARE TO SEE IT EXTENDED THAT LONG , THE W THE WAY IT HAS A SLIGHT HOOK ON THE END AS WELL AS THE HOOK ON THE END AT THE END OF THE UNDERLINE , ALL A LITTLE DIFFERENT. ALL THIS TO SAY A LITTLE BACKGROUND WOULD HELP IN GIVING A THUMBS UP OR DOWN. UNLESS YOU SEE IT GETTING

SIGNED OR IT WAS PURCHASED FROM WGA OR UPPER DECK  IT REALLY IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO AUTHENTICATE THESE HURRIED SHORT FORM GRETZKY SIGNATURES. JUST MY OPINION, I WOULD NOT BUY THIS IF IT WAS OFFERED TO ME... YES IT COULD BE REAL , A RUSHED VERSION THAT ACCOUNTS FOR THE DISCREPANCIES I SEE , I WOULD RATHER SAVE MY MONEY AND BUY A FULL SIGNATURE FROM THE GREAT ONE , MUCH NICER TO THE EYE AND WORTH MORE DOWN THE ROAD .

Thanks it was signed at a golf event so it was in a crowd a few years back.

GOOD TO KNOW ,

WAYNE MORE OFTEN THAN NOT WILL SIGN IN PUBLIC, I HAVE SEEN HIM GET MOBBED IN CANADA AND HE USUALLY IS VERY PATIENT AND WILL SIGN AWAY . FOR GETTING HIM IN PUBLIC YOUR SIGNATURE IS ACTUALLY NOT THAT BAD , I HAVE SEEN HIM GIVE A LOT WORSE SIGNATURE IN A CROWD . THAT'S WHY TRYING TO ACTUALLY AUTHENTICATE SOME OF THE RUSHED SIGNATURES WITH  ANY KIND OF CERTAINTY IS  NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE . FULL SIGNATURES ARE ALWAYS EASIER TO AUTHENTICATE. I AM AMAZED AT SOME OF THE AUTHENTICATORS ( PSA/DNA for example ) WHO  SAY A CERTAIN GRETZKY SIGNATURES IS

AUTHENTIC .
