Hi everyone,

Same deal with this as the Derek Jeter auto. Bought it off ebay in the last year, felt comfortable since it's upper deck certified, then learned more (thanks to this community) of the sophisticated ways that folks are forging autos. Thanks in advance for your thoughts on whether this 1995 Willie Mays certified upper deck auto is in fact the real deal.

After looking at the mays autograph, I'd run.

Oh no. That is really disappointing. What about the auto makes you say that? Thanks for the help!

This is the type of Willie Mays autograph you want in your collection. There's no dispute in it's authenticity. Look at the autograph. The fluidity. Very robust. Just a beautiful Autograph. What I've learned the last few years, especially from the wonderful members in here is, when an autograph comes across your path, and you look at it, you have to ask yourself, do you want it in your collection? If the answer is yes, great, hopefully it'll work out, but if you have to question it, or if there's a lot of debate about it, Why would you even want it? Go after one that you can be proud of. Don't get me wrong I love debating autographs and their authenticity, just as long as no one gets hurt or loses any money.

Anything that is certified by Upper Deck is usually good.. Most of their autographs or signed cards are signed with a UD official present, unlike many TPA. Since it is a card from 1995 I would call Upper Deck and verify the hologram code on the back. In 1995, Mays probably did sign it. I do not see anything off on the signature.

Upper deck has received a black eye or two, by putting cut vintage signatures (Babe Ruth) on one of their cards and put it in as an insert. The Ruth was later found to be forgery, but it was certified or looked at by JSA or PSA.

I'll always own what I say. I apologize I just didn't like the autograph. I should have elaborated more. Like I said in another post, I don't like to opine on the Mays anymore and a lot of the members here won't either. It may be fine. I wouldn't want it in my collection.I looked up the hologram number on the upper deck website and there's nothing that can support this particular card. I don't think you can find any info on any Authenticated UD stuff before '02.

Hey John,

No need at all to apologize. I really appreciated your feedback and must say that those are some really amazing Mays autos that you have. I have found this community very helpful. Collected as a kid, have gotten back into it in the past 2 years and it's been informative and nice to evaluate the state of my current collection and become a more informed collector moving forward! Thanks again and please do keep the comment and opinions on my posts coming!

Thanks! I'll call upper deck and see what info I can find.
