I've had a few books signed through the mail. But I try to get sigs in person for the most part. During the 8 yrs I lived in S. CA I had the opportunity to meet children's author Marguerite Henry ("Misty of Chincoteague", "King of the Wind") twice...in the early 1990s and she signed two of her books.. Last year I was able to meet the family of Walter Farley ("The Black Stallion") . His eldest son, Steven is a freelance writer and has continued his father's Black Stallion series. He released the newest Black Stallion book a year ago and not only was I able to get his signature in the book (first edition) but also his mother's and his younger brother's signatures. I collect autobiographies and was able to obtain Annette Funicello's and Barry Williams' signatures in their autobios through the mail over 10 years ago. Last year I was also able to obtain Lonnie Burr's signed autobio and Mark Goddard's signed autobio through the mail.

I have a bit of luck with a few writers. Anne Rice sent me a couple signed book plates , very nice art work on them, i also have gotten dean koontz. My wife is a great horror novel lover and has all the greats, but , her favorite author, stephen king refuses to sign. or thats what his computer generated letter stated. he said he had no time to sign because of hi sschedule. she was disappointed by that , but the other koontz and rice made up for it. i have an extra anne ricxe plate if any one has a good auto to trade,. That's cool, I would have liked to meet him also, sometimes when I meet people and say my name, they are surprised at Sheldon, I tell them it's like all the famous ones, but I'm not!
