I sent out a football trading card in a top loader to the 1958 National Championship head football coach of LSU, Paul Dietzel.  He returned it signed, not the card, but the top loader with card still inside.  Anyone had this happen before?  First time for me.

This has happened to me twice as well and to my friend through TTM request's....Eddie Layton signed my top loader and my friends as well...and left the card inside

Yes he also did the same thing to me.

Do you still send cards in top loaders?

Sounds a little passive-aggressive, huh?

yes i was thinking the same thing.i sent some out today and of course i sent in toploader.

That seems to happen occassionally especially with the older players. I think some of them may have a hard time getting the cards out or just figure that's what you wanted signed.  In some cases it may be intentional.  I have sent back a handful of items over the years without any issue of having them resigned (minus the top loader of course).  I generally don't send things out in top loaders but I'll use some other form of protection (no laughs - this is a family oriented site).  Not that I would recommend this because I believe USPS regulate the use of PM envelopes but if you cut one of them slightly bigger than an item(s) I bet it would work perfectly to protect a multitude of pieces. Additionally I've never heard of one of them coming back signed!

I have always sent my request with top loaders...I know that most of the time the players take them out and sign them...I have stopped sending them out in top loaders for a while...I know there is a chance of it getting dinged up and what not but you have a better chance the auto is going to come out much nicer and not smudge when put back in the top loader which also has happens...the only reason I was doing it with the top loader for the most part is so it does not get damaged in the rain...My mail man puts the mail in my box and leaves it open to the elements all day everyday...I don't know why...but he does...but if your going to send them in the future I would just send them with out the top loader...especially to the older players

had that dont to me too with a Goal Line Art card...it was John Henry Johnson signed both.

l usually just send out the top loader in the envelope with the card or photo and for some reason they are nice enough to put it into the loader..but to sign both tells me that they are not long for signing too much longer.  As they say,,,only the good guys die young....RIP big guy!!

Ford signed the plastic sleeve and put it back in the top loader...yes...this has not happened to me in a while...but it did again

where did you get his address?

This happened to me the first time I sent a card to 2011 Pro Football HOF'er  Ed Sabol.

When I send out cards I never send them in a top loader for this reason, alot of the guys will pull the card from the enevlope and just sign w/e they see 1st whether its card or top loader I almost never get a card back bent it does happen here and there but best bet is to send card with no top loader
